my ipad screen is black

I was *super* skeptical about this. I liked the suggestion about *twisting* the screen a little ("kneeing" it sounded a bit scary)--so I did the twist, and viola! It really does work!

Believe it or not, giving it a hard knock in the back worked for me instantly. Is this the result of some sort of hardware defect?

I dropped it onto a small carpet and then tapped it from about 1 foot high === screen returned, up and running again 🙂

You made my day, dude! I had just visited the Apple store regarding this issue and they said the only way was to swap the iPad with a new model, by buying it for an exchange rate of $250. I was oh-so-heart-broken and then came across your post. Couple of kneeling thuds on the ipad and all was well! Thank you so much!!

Amazing. Thank you! I cannot believe this worked. Not something you want to do but whacking the daft thing on my knee brought it back to life. Now My daughter won't be quite so morose :-D

Try kneeing you ipad on the back with a considerable amount of force, that worked for me. I know it sounds crazy but something moved inside of your ipad and kneeing it will move it back. I promise I am not lying.

I can't believe it, but this worked for me too! The ipad went black for days, and nothing worked. My Mac wouldn't even recognize it. I thought, what the heck, nothing to lose and I whacked it with my knee. It INSTANTLY came to life. Thanks!

Unbelievable. My husband was about to throw the thing out and get a new one, so I tried this as a last resort and I still can't believe it WORKED. It's like an old-school TV set...sometimes it just needs a good whack to get it going again!

Thank god I found this post, I was freaking out because the warrenty expired last week. Kneeing it worked for me too. It took 2 tries I didn't do it that hard the first time, second time left my knee a little sore, but it works!! I did it right under the headphone jack too.

it's really like magic , i knee on my ipad but it's not working , but when i twisted it hardelly right and left many times i got a blue screen then i got the original one working Thanks soooooooooooooooooo much,

Thank you so much!!!! I can't believe this worked. We kneeled and twisted corners slightly and it worked!!!! I have an appointment on Monday at the apple store I can now cancel!!!! Thank you.

Twisting it actually worked! When I first found this discussion I thought "no way that'll work". But, since my only other option was sending it away I figured I'd try it. Thanks everyone.

I got this problem too.

The screen is totally black. You can see it " black-dim " when you turn it Off & On.

You can ear the email tones when I receive an email.

So it's definitvly working ... just show's a balck screen.

So here's what I did (don't get your hope's up .. I'm still stuck).

1- I tried to put it on recovery mode. It does ... but I can't see the usuall iTunes and connector image, I still get a black screen.

2- Rebooted it from recovery, still black

3- Did a full Restore, still black

Now it's totally empty and still the same black screen.

Any ideas ?
