icloud notes not syncing

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!

Okay, sorry to yell, but this was bothering the heck out of me! I thought it was an issue with Notes on my iMac, but it turns out that it has everything to do with the phone settings. Apparently, in their infinite wisdom, Apple decided to CHANGE your default note location when you upgraded to iOS7! For some reason they thought it would be a good idea to default your iCloud notes to store somewhere OTHER than iCloud! Besides being extremely infuriating, it's at least an easy fix.

Settings --> Notes --> Default Account --> (change this to) iCloud

WHY Apple?! Just because I updated to iOS7 doesn't mean I want you messing with all my defaults! And WHY would you default to something other than an Apple product??!!

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Turn icloud sync off for notes on your ios device and back on. If that doesnt work restart the device, and the last option is to restore it. One of those steps has always worked for me.

I think that the problem is that notes written before you activated syncing with icloud, doesn't get synced. Which means that when you activate syncing notes future notes will besynced with icloud but older notes has to be written again, in a new note, to get synced with Icloud. Hope i makes sense and that it helpes 🙂

Just loaded OS X Mavericks and now my Notes from my iPad have disappeared on in my iMac Mail. Any ideas how I can get the iPad notes back into my iMac mail?

I have been using ipad 4 for over a year. Had no problem syncing Notes with my Sony Vaio, even after update to IOS 7, until now. For the last few days the Ipad Notes are not appearing on my pc. I tried the different solutions mentioned in this forum, but it has not worked. And why should it - Notes Sync was working fine until a few days ago. Now it does not work, and without making any changes to the settings. I think it is a problem with Apple, and it is disappointing to see that they are not responding. It cannot be a bug with the latest update as syncing was happening even after the update.

I had my default account as gmail, and then I tried yahoo. Both worked for me quite well. However now the Notes on ipad are not syncing to my pc even though the settings did not change after the upgrade to iOS7.

I read and re-read all these different solutions several times and also tried them all.

Finally it was julester23's solution which worked. I had to read it several times times though to understand it.

This is what I did and what you can try to see if it works for you:

Go to your ipad Notes ---> Accounts ---->icloud. You will get a list of documents stored there. Now tap on the right side of the ipad so that this list of documents is not seen anymore but only your latest note is visible. Now click on the new note icon and write your note. This note should appear on your pc, as it did mine.

There are 4-5 folders in the icloud Notes section - All Notes, Gmail, Yahoo, icloud or more if you have added more email accounts. If you write a new note while you are in any other section except icloud they will not sync to your other devices. This is what I discovered after one year of using the ipad. For the past year I never had any problem with syncing the notes to the pc and I have no idea which folder I was using. As far as I knew I was using the All Notes folder, but I am not sure.

I wish apple would just add the ability on the phone to move a note from one list/account to another (much like you can with imap email). This would solve everything for "stranded" notes like mine. It would only require one action (move) per note instead of:

1. Open
2. Select all
3. Copy
4. Change list
5. New
6. Paste

… for every note.

So frustrating.

Yes, that seems to be my situation, but somehow my iPhone first propagated one of the notes 1500 times! Trying to find a easier way to delete them than one by one. GRRRRRRRR!

Deleting the iCloud Account and recreating it did the trick for me. Thanks!

To expand upon what Nitajk is saying and hopefully clarify:

I had a problem where Notes was not syncing between my iPad and my iPhone. What ultimately solved my problem was opening the Notes application on both devices, going into the Accounts settings on the upper left, and selecting iCloud - *on both devices*.

After running a few tests, I discovered that (unfortunately, to Apple users' chagrin) selecting the 'All Notes' option does not sync notes between devices. As Nitajk stated, the only setting that works for full syncing between devices is iCloud.

...Because, after all, it wouldn't be an Apple product if it worked straight out of the box, right? - More like "iCould...if it worked right."

You may try checking you payment information for you icloud account. I had updated my info in the itunes store when my credit card expired several months ago. It seems the new information did not cross over to my icloud account. Go to system preferences> icloud>manage> view account. I do not pay for extra icloud storage, so I am not sure why it mattered, but this worked for me. Hope it works for someone else.

Too true! Some problems like the 2 1/2 year old mouse cursor/pointer disappearing remain unsloved, and the Mavericks firewire and thunderbold drives not sleeping bug. But have you noticed that an Apple person is posting in this discussion, for the first time ever! With an Apple icon:Is that hopeful?
