icloud notes not syncing

This is a weird one, any note created on my imac appears on my iphone and ipad through icloud

But any note created on my ipad or iphone doesn't appear on my imac.

Have searched for this particularly icloud issue, but couldn't find out which device i need to work on or what the workaround is

Thanks for any help!

groovycatmedia:

According to your signature, you are running Snow Leopard (as am I) - in which case iCloud does not sync with your Mac at all. However, it can be accessed (apart from photos, gee thanks, Apple!) via a web browser.

But wherever you're creating your notes, if they're not getting from iPhone to iCloud, the solution may be quite simple:

You're probably creating your notes in an (email) account that doesn't sync with iCloud.

"What?"

Rather than me explaining, do this: on your iDevices, go to Settings > Notes > Default Account.

Chances are this will be set to On My iPhone (or similar) or to the name of an email account that isn't iCloud.

Set this to iCloud.

Er... that's it.

Now when you create a new note on your iDevice, it should automatically sync to iCloud.

Apparently iCloud on the web only displays notes created in the iCloud account on your iDevice.

For JackJohnsonsea and others who don't get syncing in either direction, the solution is to follow the steps above and then on your iDevice make sure you are displaying all notes:

In Notes, tap Accounts (top left).

Now tap All Notes.

Presto! All your notes will be displayed.

FWIW I think the log out/log in/reset/delete/recreate workarounds are just resetting the default display of all notes on the iDevice.

Needless to say it is a sadly all-too-typical Apple design flaw that the default library page of Notes does not tell the user which set of notes are being displayed or that others may be available in other accounts.

I hope this helps somebody.

Jaysnoop - Thanks for shouting. That was exactly my problem. Unbeknownst to me, I had two other notes accounts on my iPad (one was for an Outlook account) and for some reason the notes I created this morning on my iPad were using the Outlook account. I switched the default to iCloud and moved the missing notes to that account and voila, they are visible on my MacBook as I was originally expecting.

One of the other posters mentioned adding space to the icloud account, it worked for me!

My issue was that suddenly my iphone and mac air notes wouldn't sync. The two notes were independent of each other. Every time I would go into my Icloud settings on my iphone and turn notes on, it would slide back to off. It was strange. So I simply went to "icloud" in the settings on my iphone. scrolled down to "storage and backup" and "change storage plan' by adding more storage.

I went back to Icloud, slid the notes to on and it synced. All my notes appeared.

This may work for any of you who are having issues with syncing, it may be a storage sizing issue.

I reset my notes to sync to icloud instead of gmail, and when that happened, then it fixed the problem for any NEW notes I created (in either place). But it didn't move any of my old notes, and editing the old notes on the ipad didn't help.

I found on the iCloud you can go to Account Settings > Advanced > Reset Documents & Data > Reset Documents and Data, then click Reset. That didn't solve it either though, even after restarting the ipad.

The final kludge that did (sort of) work was this: open an old note on the ipad, double tap to get the context menu. "select all". create a new note, then hit paste. That instantly syncs the "new" note. and then you can delete the old one (which is now just an unsynced duplicate). Then repeat this sequence with every single note that you want synced, one after the other. I did my few most important ones, then gave up on the rest.

But hey, Apple is better than PC, because things just work, amiright.

Check to see if when you added another email account to your phone (i.e. gmail or outlook), your "default note account" wasn't switched over to that account. Go go Settings \ Notes \ Default Account. ... Switch it back to iCloud.

I don't know how to bring the notes over from the "offending" account to iCloud, other than copying and pasting. It would be good to be able to transfer notes, like in Reminders or Calendar.

Thanks for this thread - I finally twigged why I couldn't sync with my new iPhone 6 - my notes were "On My iPhone". I have successfully synced using Gmail account.

Icloud is history now - too much data and I am certainly not paying Apple for more storage!

I re-wrote (copy/paste) all notes individually. It would help others if there was some way of moving/copying notes from one account to the other.

I have a new iPhone 6. Realized NOTES weren't syncing with my MAC. Here's what I did to fix it. On the iPhone 6 I went to settings/iCloud and turn off NOTES. Turn the phone all the way off. Turn the phone on. Check NOTES. None there. That's good. They were all suppose to be stored in iCloud. Go to settings/iCloud and turn on NOTES. Wait a few minutes. Go to notes on the phone and NOTES are now synced and updating changes to MAC and other devices. Hope this helps. Apple has hiccups when you change phones, devices ect.

Only the copy and paste method worked for me. I think mine got bollixed up when Apple switched us from Mobile Me to iCloud. Mail and Calendars were fine, but for some reason, my me.com Notes weren't moved over, so they only "lived" on my phone.

Repeating what I did:

On the iPhone, open the Notes app

Tap Accounts

Tap On My iPhone

One by one, open each note, select all, tap Accounts, tap iCloud, tap New, then paste.

Once you verify that the notes you moved are in iCloud (I checked using the browser app), you can delete all the notes on your device.

Make sure your device is now set up to open to the iCloud account by default.

You'll need to do this again if you created Notes on another device that may be stranded. I'll check my iPad tonight.
