I think you mean .sitx. That is Stuffit Expander.

.sitx I believe you are referring to is a Stuffit Expander compatible format. Windows Media Player is not mentioned in Macintouch's Rosetta compatibility, and neither is Flip4Mac's WMV plugin for Quicktime.

To little to late for me. My MAC is head back to the store tomorrow because of no .WMP.

That's your only reason for bringing it back? Pretty sad. If you need, or want to play .wmp files that badly, pick up the free Flip4Mac player. Install it and your web browser will play .wmp files just fine.

Do you know for a fact that it works in Rosetta? I don't have an Intel Mac so I can't say for certain.

It probably would work in Boot Camp, Parallel's Workstation, or OpenOSX Wintel. All are available Windows environments for Intel Macs, which are covered in my FAQ:

No reason to send back your Mac yet. Macs do Windows, Windows machines can't do Mac OS X yet with as great capabilities.

What ever this Flip4Mac does not work on Intel chips.

I've had some other issues with it. Including, unable to listen to Sirius radio online, software that does not work and or is unsupported. A keyboard and mouse combo that did not work. A printer that required another driver (Windows had all the drivers for my printer but not MAC) to operate.

Just to name a few.

Sorry, you are correct. Flip4Mac hasn't been updated for Intel Macs yet.

I don't know what keyboard/mouse combo doesn't work on a Mac. There is even a solution for using any PC/AT keyboards on a Mac:

VLC does not work on this system.

Go to Sirius and click on the "listen" link at the top of the page.

Log in, then navigate to the station to which you want to listen.

When the QuickTime controller comes up, click on the downward triangle at the right side and select 'Save as source...'.

Now launch VLC and open the file you saved from the previous step; it seems you must do this via the File: Open menu item, and not via drag and drop.


When I log it there is no Quicktime controller! Hence why I am getting rid of this unit!

Yeah, I don't know what happened, but I fixed it.

I would send a support request to VLC. Others seem to have made it work, or submit an inquiry to that Mac OS X hints thread I pointed you to.

For some strange reason Sirius just started playing. Using some form of Win Media Player. I can not see what song is playing but. Still no enbedded video on web sites.


Not worth the hassle still. I really don't want to be here asking stupid questions everyday about MAC. It just looks like I am bugging everyone.

You only bug people when you say you are going to return your Mac just because you can't watch videos at cnn.com. 🙂

The whole reason we are all here is to help each other resolve our computer problems. You'll have a hard time finding another forum quite as useful as this one at any Windows or PC-related website. Many consider this forum as one of the advantages of using a Mac. a brody and others are pretty knowledgeable and can help to solve pretty much any problem. There are a few bumps in the Mac experience right now due to the transition from PowerPC to Intel processors, but by all accounts the transition is moving faster than expected. Give yourself some time to make the transition to a new platform.

I have a PowerPC Mac and have never had any trouble viewing Windows Media files (except for those with Microsoft DRM built in, which will only play on WMP for Windows). You have the added advantage that you can boot your Mac into Windows if need be.

And stupid questions are my favorite ones here, because they're the ones I know how to answer.
