pc restarts if ipod AND modem plugged in

hi, whenever i connect my ipod and my modem into my pc, the computer either restarts or crashes. And i can only connect my ipod if the modem is out, this isnt a huge problem but is inconvenient. I have tried reinstalling and rebooting the computer which hasnt worked, and tried to plug into different usb ports which wont help either. I want both to work so that i can charge my ipod at the same time i am on the web and so that i can add album art quicker.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanx in advance

hiya!

here's the instructions again:

To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.

collect the minidump, and send it to this email address

in the email, include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can.

(this one will actually be going to a different thread than last time.)

love, b

Mumith:

I took a look at the crash dump file you sent in. The component that is crashing is naiavf5x.sys. This is a component of McAfee anti-virus software. You should update your anti-virus software and definitions to the latest version. Some malware disguises itself as that naiavf5x.sys file, so you should also download, update, and run known-good anti-virus/malware software on the computer.

Mumith,

Th last crashdump you got contained no useful information. It basically said it did not know what caused the crash. I have a few thoughts though.

You got an error message about disk space. How much free disk space do you have on your main hard disk?

You are using a British Telecom modem. There have been some problems using those modems if Bonjour for Windows is installed. Look in the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel. If Bonjour for Windows is installed, remove it.

Also try removing McAfee Anti-virus temporarily.

See if there is a firmware upgrade for your modem, and install it if there is.

It's also a good idea to update the drivers for your video card.
