MacBook Pro shuts down randomly

My MacBook Pro 15" i7 (Medio 2010) keeps randomly shutting down, with and without the powercable connected. This problem occurred months ago and I still haven't been able to fix it. I'm running Mountain Lion, and yes, I've read all the other topics about this.

Here's what I did:

  • SMC reset;
  • SMC update (SMC-versie (systeem): 1.58f17), which is the latest for my MacBook;
  • PRAM reset;
  • Reïnstalled Mountain Lion;
  • Called customer service;
  • Checked 'Automatic graphics switching';
  • Automatic log-out is unchecked.

My battery cycles: 297.

Is there anything else I can do? I'm getting desperate.

Hye!

Im having the same problem as yours with my 17 inch Mackbook Pro i7 (2011). After I upgraded it form Lion to Mountain Lion (4 months ago) it started to shut up randomly with no reason and every time with more frequency. I took the computer to the Apple Store several times and they assured it was a Software problem so they formatted it but whenever I start working again y shuts off sooner or later.

Did it stop after you changed the Logic Board? I was starting to think that perhaps the answer was to reinstall the Lion Software incase Mountain Lion was the one causing all the problems.

Thankyou for your help!

Also, I am 1.5 months out of my extended warranty... so.... is this a recall or I'm SOL??

Not really a "recall," but they did repair it for up to three years from date of purchase, which is longer than a normal warranty.

However, your panic is not the one covered by the extended servicing.

Did you replace the RAM recently?

Being part of that problem I can only say that Apple has run all the test they can at the Genius bar. My computer passed all the test 2 tumbs up. I had to leave my computer and they will run the big analysis winch takes a day.

Afternoon loosing twice my hard drive having time machine running as if everything was right including saying 635 giga left of Space, but not a thing on it?????

I am eiger to find out if they will want me to extend 2300$ to get a new one.

Hi! I got the problem fixed about 6 months ago.

After running all the tests, even de anaylisis numerous times they didn't find any problem until 3 weeks later, when another employer tried the anaylisis again and found one suspicious fluctuation in the results of the graph corresponding to the graphics card. It was so small and difficult to spot that no one took notice and therefore all of the results were always positive. So... When they decided to take it into account they changed my graphics card, which ment to change de whole logic board. Luckilly I had Apple Care and I saved 600 euros.

Sice then, I have had no further problems.

Look at this link and see if you can understand it (spanish). This is exactly what happened to me. I fulfilled all the characteristics. Good luck!

So the logic board is likely the problem?

I have just recently started having this problem. Just shuts off for no reason. My Mac book Pro Retina, 13 inch, was purchased October 2014 is it running OS 10.8.5. I unplugged all the attachments from the USB ports and that seems to help. Also, I can only revive the computer after I unplug the power cord. Weird. Should I take this in for an evaluation?
