Error Occurred While Creating the Backup Folder

hi all.

i am getting a failure "Unable to Complete Backup/ Time Machine Could not Complete the Backup" with the above explanation and i am not seeing an FAQ of this on J Pondini's excellent set of documents (what a job!).

should i just reformat my external drive and start over again (sigh)?

I have 1.03 TB used on my 2 TB primary drive and my Backup Drive is showing 133.29 GB available on a 3 TB drive.

is there a setting here i should be checking?

thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1), with 64 bit Win7 Boot Camp | iCloud

Thanks! But it must not be all that good if you didn't see the reference and link to Time Machine - Troubleshooting. 😉

See #C10 there.

James, as always, has been a wonderful help to you. But I've been reading all of your recent posts, and it seems like you are having tons of different problems. I know from this thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5056007?answerId=22080811022#22080811022&ac_cid=ha123456#22080811

that you've not understood some of the basics of Macdom. Proper installation of apps, for example, is very easy, once you understand that it doesn't happen in the manner PC guys are used to.

You could start a new thread containing all of the things you're having problems with. That way we might be able to see a corelation between those problems. I guess where I'm coming from, is that we're very pleased to help you, but in your recent posts, it's obvious that you need help lwith more than you backups.

How is your ExHD formatted?

I know if you explained to James everything that's happening in one thread, it would make it so much easier for him.

no joke. all bow to the great pondini.

i will be abolutely stunned if apple is not using a miniscule piece of that huge pile of cash to get him free new products to test/use and/or flying him to apple conventions or a visit to cupertino headquarters.

then again, based upon how my laptop has been taken care of since 2009 - - ah well nevermind...it was a nice thought!

Thanks, but color thyself stunned. 😉

AppleCare does occasionally refer folks to my website (and other outside sources, including an Apple Club's site with similar info about iPhones, etc.), but there are no such rewards for participation here: https://discussions.apple.com/static/apple/tutorial/reputation.html.

And there shouldn't be -- anything like that would put far too much incentive on us civilians just earning points any way we could, whether legitimately or not, rather than helping folks.
