How do I prevent iTunes 11.0.3 from opening automatically when I connect my iPhone?

The selection in iPhone/Summary/Options is no longer visible after the last update.

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.4, snow leopard

From the iTunes menu at the top go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Check the box at the bottom of that window. Click OK, quit iTunes.

That will stop iTunes from launching when you connect the phone stop automatic syncing.

I've having this problem too, through several updates to iTunes. Until I actually went in and looked in iTunes on a lark today, and found this option in the Device menu for my iPod:

User uploaded file

I unchecked that box, and it doesn't launch anymore. Not sure if this option was added recently, or if it's just for ipods, or what, but I hope it helps somebody out there.

Also, I'm on iTunes 11.2.1.

Greyout autosync box

I had the same issue whhere auto sync check box is greyied out. Fix is easy and you dont need to bend you head over.

SOLUTION: This onlu happens when you have iunes launched automatically, when phone connected, like you plugin the device you hate itunes you wnat to uncheck that box and its locked 🙂 So close itunes, open it again like you wnated it to run, not it startd with new pharameters (make sure device is pluged in) and now you have auto sync box unlocked.

Hope thta helps!

Demo, you are correct about auto synching
I have iPhone 5S, latest iTunes. The phrase is different now, like Cate Kurtis mentioned....
Nevertheless, after I uncheck the box for "automatic synching" iTunes does not open anymore automatically after I plug my iPhone.

Kurtis, maybe you have another option selected that's opening up iTunes....and it's not "manage music manually" b/c I have that one checked too.

Like many others, in OS X Mavericks 10.9.5, I have been plagued by iTunes self launching, there doesn’t seem to be an answer to this intrusive ongoing problem.

In my case, simply deleting iTunes from Applications wouldn’t be the answer as I still needed to access iTunes in order to sync my iPad.

I have solved this problem to my complete satisfaction, now iTunes only loads when I dictate.

Herewith the step by step solution:

First Backup OS X

Launch Terminal.

Enter the following commands:

cd /Applications

sudo rm -rf iTunes.app

You will then be asked for your password.

Open the Time Machine Disc click on Backups then scroll down to Applications and copy iTunes.app

Make a new Folder labelled iTunes in Users Documents and paste in the copied iTunes.app. (I have Users Documents in the Dock providing easy access to iTunes.)

Herewith a Screen Shot of System Preferences:

User uploaded file

Note that iDrive is NOT Listed! This is because I have removed all Social Media from Applications and deleted every Social Media entry in the Library that I could find. The Lobotomy I performed on OS X Mavericks 'Brain' has had unexpected benefits, everything seems to load faster and my iMac feels rock solid, even my Magic Mouse no longer disconnects! My best regards to all.

To stop automatic sync once device is connected to computer:

Click iTunes menu at top of computer screen

Click 'Preferences'

Click 'Devices' icon at top of dialogue:

Check the box by 'Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically'

Click 'OK'

To stop itunes from starting by itself whether or not device is connected:

Click iTunes menu at top of computer screen

Click 'Preferences'

Click 'Advanced' icon at top of dialogue:

Uncheck 'Check for new software updates automatically' at towards bottom of dialogue.

Click 'OK'

User uploaded file

This finally solved the problem for me!
