iPod touch discharges very fast in standby mode only if inserted into Apple Universal Dock

I have a problem.

My iPod touch 3rd generation 32 GB (Model Number A1318, no jailbreak, iOS 5.1.1) discharges very fast in standby mode (on, but not used) if it is inserted into Apple Universal Dock (Model Number A1256, Firmware Revision 1.0.2). If it is not inserted into this dock and stays in standby mode self discharge is much less and quite acceptable.

The Universal Dock could not be faulty, as I have the other iPod touch (2nd generation 8 GB; Model Number A1288, no jailbreak, iOS 4.2.1) and it works perfectly when inserted into the same dock.

The battery could not be faulty as well, as it was changed and there were no change. The service also informed me that the iPod looks very well inside and there is any damage at all, so hardware should also be okay.

Notwithstanding I noticed that it usually responds to IR remote if is unused for a few hours, while the good iPod does not respond to IR remote if iPod is idle for a few hours. Maybe this could be the reason, but it seems not always.

I did not tried any software related actions to solve fast discharge.

I use this iPod only with the dock, as it is connected to my stereo, but it seems to be impossible to use it normally. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? It is nearly impossible that newer iPod with new battery and newer iOS discharges faster that the old one.

You are making it very difficult 😎. I am not sure that it is the iPod connector or not. But what if the dock connector is not good and there is a faulty contact in the connector of the dock: it could be that with your new iPod this faulty contact is used and not used when you insert the old iPod. I wouldn't know how to check that: maybe you can find somebody with an iPod the same as you have and test it.

Well, I did not find anything wrong on the contacts. Notwithstanding it is really hard to see it even using very powerful magnifier.

Additionally I performed reset of the iPod using iTunes, but it did not helped also. The problem persists.

Is it possible to return the older iOS instead of iOS 5.1.1? It would be the last resort.

I can buy a new iPod touch (4th gen to fit my Dock) but how to be sure the problem will not repeat??
