Hi MacDan,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Here's how to transfer a rented movie from iTunes to your iPad:
How to rent a movie from the iTunes Store on your computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1390
Once the rental is downloaded, you can watch it on your computer or transfer the rental to a supported iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV (1st generation):
- Connect the device and select it in iTunes.
- Click the Movies button.
- Select the movie, and then click Move.
- After all movies have been moved, click Apply in the lower-right corner of iTunes.
You must be connected to the Internet to transfer a rented movie.
This information from our iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ) document is also good to note:
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
Best,
Jeremy
Thank you! This worked for me too but I never would have thought to try it. This must be an issue that needs fixed!
The easy way for Apple to fix it would be... not to hide it! Everything doesn't need to be hidden and pop up somewhere if you move your mouse to this or that point. It's not user-friendly... if you ask me >> Very New User Unfriendly! Imagine all Apps worked the same way... hiding things for you to guess when and where things would pop up... and what to do to make them pop.
This is the wierdest thing. Resizing and moving the window around worked, the MOVE button showed up. Thank you Evprocras and Ryeeno! I have spent the last 2 months frustrated!
Your solution is the one that worked. It's a UI bug in that the move buttons appear and disappear as you slide the size of the window back and forth.
As this perplexed me also the steps for moving a rented video from mac to device:
1. Make sure rented video has download entirely to your mac
2. Connect device to mac
3. In iTunes go to videos -> rented
4. Click and drag the rented video
5. Side menu should open and you should see your device, drop on your device..
6. (Fingers crossed) watch rented video.
You do not always get the move button.... why?
Thanks. I was able to get the move button by resizing as you suggested. The only problem is that when I hit the revealed move button nothing happens.
This is the only thing what worked for me. Thanks. One problem, however, is that it doesn't work backwards: you can't use the method to transfer the film from an iPhone/iPad back to the Mac from whence it came.
I have 3 movie rentals on my computer and want to transfer them to my I pad. I plug in my I pad and hit the movie button but don't see my rentals to trandfer. Any sugestions?
