widget for dashboard won't download

From the dashboard I try to download a widget. Whatever widget I choose, I end up in http://www.apple.com/downloads/. At the end of the page there is a link to dasboard widgets and I can choose a widget again. But again when I click download: I get back to http://www.apple.com/downloads/.

How to download a widget?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I don't buy that explanation. I am sitting in the state of Virginia in the US and I am experiencing the same infinite loop others are describing.
