Is there a way to attach an external camera on an ipad? I've read many posts that were fairly old... And best thing was a Disney camera that only took stills. Most other forums said No, there is no such thing... Is there really no camera on the market that can be attached somehow to Ipad?

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but the company I work for makes cameras that connect to iPads. Right now the camera has three lenses (Microscope, telescope, and standalone camera) that might work for what you're looking for.

And right now it only works in our app (search Exo Labs in the app store) and wouldn't work with Skype, but you can still export photos and videos into your camera roll.

Ipads dont support video in, so without doing major surgery to the ipad, no.

There might also be baby-monitor cameras that connect wirelessly to iPads. I will research and post an update if I find any.

Why not try to if " FOSCAM " will work for you. yes the camera is a bit $$$ but I am thinking of trying that myself.
I will be using it for video feeds of astronomy stuff and the cam is generally for home security. I will let you know what I find out about that
One important use for this would be to take advantage of the new relatively cheap usb & android boroscopes (endoscopes) that are now available. Wifi versions which will work on iOS seem to be a little wonky.

I want to also have a similar feature. I have a vision impaired daughter who is using a ipad to "zoom in" on the classroom board. The problem is, it's a bit awkward for her to hold the ipad at an angle. It would be far easier to have her hold the iPad on her lap, but have a separate camera that she can angle UP at the board, without having to tilt the whole iPad up!
Have you thought about purchasing a short height (under 24 inches) mobile device tabletop tripod or stand that can be adjusted for height an angle that your daughter can just stand her iPad on her desk without holding it?
They make speicial and different size tripods that hold mobile tablet devices.
Something like this may work.
