Why two Send boxes in Mail App ?
I sometimes get confused: where is my sent mail ? there are two Sent boxes.
One under Mailboxes and one under Gmail
I never know when the sent mail appears on one or the other.

Yes.
Mail continues to surprize me. Today I notice the Outbox used to be there but not now.
So how do I get that back ?
And there are many other bizarre behaviours that I'd rather not mention since I may make some of you frothing (out of fury).... I mean those who beleive that Mail is perfect.
The Outbox will only appear in the sidebar when you have a message to send out stored in it. If you deley sending, or it fails to send for whatever reason, the message will go to the outbox. Once the message is sent, if it stays in the sidebar, it will disappear again if empty on Mail's restart.
The same behavior apply for an empty draft folder in Mail's main mailboxes.
Is this described in the Help files ?
Don't know. Rarely use the help files from the OS as I stated in the other post.
You can't select the second one because technically it is already selected. Sent mail is a folder created by gmail To store your sent emails. The sent folder on mail app is exactly the same thing. Everything under "gmail" is all the labels and folders created by the mail service.
Like the others said, an outbox is a box for emails that have not been sent. It only appears when you have an email that hasn't been sent yet, like an email you tried to send when you had no Internet.
I have deleted the Sent Mail box under Gmail and now want it back
So this is my setting:
Gmail / Setting / Labels / Sent Mail / Show
Now it shows in Gmail but not in Mail.
??
Worse: some of the mails I am sending do not appear in Sent box on my Mail
They appear on Sent Mail in Gmail and All Mails in Mail
??
You have to click the box to show in IMAP. See the picture in the post by CSound previously.
Now I have the following settings
Gmail / Setting / Labels / Sent Mail / Show in Label List; IMAP is not ticked (thus not show)
What do I see in Mail ?
That Sent Message folder which is absolutely useless since it does not display the recipient at all
It displays only the sender which is me, a completely redundant information
Sending a mail will not show up in any of the two Sent boxes
So the problem is not solved. And now I realize I will never understand this.
I've been struggling for weeks with it and thought I had a grasp of it but now again, lost all control.
Why don't you want to use the Gmail Sent Mail folder/label/mailbox?
Barney-15E has a point. What bothers you about the second sent mail box?

It's not really a "second" Sent mailbox. It is Gmail's primary sent mail, but bomiboll doesn't seem to want to tell Mail to use it as sent mail.
