Why two Send boxes in Mail App ?

I sometimes get confused: where is my sent mail ? there are two Sent boxes.
One under Mailboxes and one under Gmail

I never know when the sent mail appears on one or the other.

True, it's not a second sent mail, techinically the "sent mail" that Mail.app gives you is a COPY of the "sent mail" that Gmail gives you. So all you get from these boxes is a duplicate of every email you ever sent. Same thing with inbox. Mail gives you an inbox for ALL your accounts as well as inboxes for separating your accounts. Then you can also access "all mail" under the Gmail section. You are just accessing copies of all the mail.

You CANNOT choose NOT (you don't have a choice) to use "sent mail" (under Gmail) as the sent mail folder because all your sent emails end up saved there by Gmail. The choice mail gives you is the SERVER from which you send your mail (which is basically always smtp.gmail.com).

Hope this clarifies a little.

You can take a screenshot with your cursor in the selected area (you have to capture the whole screen and then crop it to the area you actually need).

The two boxed selected below are the same, just that one is created by Gmail and read by Mail, and the other is created by Mail and contain data from Gmail.

Also (since I forgot to mention in my earlier post), back to original question, as I feel we have gone a little off track:

Your sent mail goes in BOTH of the mailboxes. "Sent Mail" under "Mailboxes" is created by Mail, and "Sent Mail" under "Gmail" is created by Gmail, but they have the same content.

No, that's incorrect. The Sent mailbox created by Gmail contains the mail sent by Gmail, the mailbox created by Mail does not UNLESS the Gmail created mailbox has been mapped to the Mail created mailbox using the "Use This Mailbox For" command.

Yes , I want ot map the Gmail created mailbo to the Mail created Sent box.
But there is a problem.
Right clicking on the Sent box gives no option to "Use This Mailbox For"

"Use This Mailbox For" is found in the menu Mailbox but it is greyed out.
Thus - the unpleasant situation is that the sent mails appear only in Gmail and
not in my Mail- Sent box .

"I do not think it works the way that you think it works"?

(With apologies to William Goldman & Andre the Giant)

No, it really does.

See the Macworld article I linked long ago. It uses the Drafts as an example, but the same can be done for Sent Mail and Trash. That command "links" the Mail folders with the Gmail folders and combines them into the unified Mailboxes.

See, no Sent Mail, no Drafts, No Trash under my Gmail header:

Here you see a screenshot under my Gmail header
I have there a Trash which contains 40 messages whereas the Mailboxes- Trash contains 9 messages, and my Web Gmail has 31 messages. Is that easy to understand why ?

I have several times mentioned the problem with Gmail-Sent Mail

Yes I can But the result is not what I want which I explained in previous mails (there is a problem with
From/ To sorting)

You certainly realize this thread is getting very long (44 replies and thus time consuming to read) and I will NOT accept the responses as satisfying.
I still maintain that Mail App is buggy or very difficult to understand.

Now you are telling me something that I can counter again. It just does not work as you say.

I am waiting for the next generation OS. The previous generation Mail App was totally unusable.
The present Mail App is usable but has some serious shortcomings.
Period.
