Seeking to convert MXF files to MOV without using FCP

I take in a lot of video files using the Panasonic HPX300 and others using the P2 card. I want to convert these camera files into MOV without having to go thru FCP Log and Transfer. Thus, I am seeking a solid software program to do the trick.

I have found several, but I don't see where they are ingesting the Video MXF, Audio MXF, Clip XML and Icon BMP to convert the entire file properly. I have always worked under the opinion all of the files had to be mixed down into that final MOV file. For instance the PavTube converter will only accept the Video MXF.

I've attached a screen grab of the camera files as they appear once downloaded from the card onto my external so you can see the various elements. User uploaded file

Suggestions and technical assistance welcome. Thanks.

MXF, short form for Material eXchange Format, is a container format (Like AVI) for professional digital video and audio media defined by a set of SMPTE standards. MXF is fairly effective at the interchange of D10 (IMX) material and is used by more and more professional camcorders like Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2 502, Panasonic P2 HD, Panasonic DVCPRO P2, Panasonic AVCCAM, HVX200, Canon XF300/XF305, and Sony PMW-EX1/EX3/800/VX10/350K etc. to store video, audio, and programmed data.

We make a program called EditReady which supports P2 MXF among other things. It can rewrap the existing media into .mov wrappers, or transcode on the fly to ProRes. Its the fastest thing out there, and it will auto detect the cameras spanning to build you the right clips with proper start and stop times. Oh, and it will read all the metadata the camera wrote out and convert it into a format FCP can read and use.

Is Quicktime compatible with MOV format? I'm a little confused but I'm sure MP4 is compatible with Quicktime. I like to use the free online video converter from this pageconvert mxf to mov, which supports to run on mac or windows. It is convenient that you can use once go to the site as it doesn't ask you to register, pay, or download anything. Hope it is useful to you🙂

I've had the pleasure of using the smart mxf converter for mac these past few months for my FCP X, It supports five of the professional prores encoders - Apple ProRes 4444, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 (LT), and Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) and MPEG-2 codecs. I mostly use ProRes 422 as my final choice and the output videos seamlessly fit in my FCP. You can also use it to convert mxf to common videos format like MOV, AVI, MP4, etc. Have a try!
