10.8.4 External Display Problem

Updated my rMBP to 10.8.4. The laptop rebooted, and the external display is not displaying correctly. How can I fix this?

The monitor has never had problems until immediatly after the update. The monitor attempts to display 1920x1080, but is offset. Part of it is off the screen, and is not horizantally long enough to fill the screen anyway. (Black bar on left side).

Bootcamp Trial

Booted into Windows 7 64bit

Monitor works fine, highest available resolution is 1280 x 1024.

Tried to set Mac resolution to 1280x 1024, works, but this is noticably less resolution than I had originally, before the update.

Specs

Retina Macbook Pro

LG external monitor: FLATRON W2343T

Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Communicated with Apple Bug Reporter and sent them a 'sysdiagnose' and a System Report file, while the display problem was occuring, and then received the following (same answer):

"This is a follow up to Bug ID# 14288383. This bug has been closed as a Duplicate. The issue is being tracked under the original Bug ID# 14319097 which is also listed in the Related Problem section of your bug report. To check the status of the original bug report, please visit the Related Problem section of the Problem Detail view of your closed duplicate bug."

This time, however, the Bug ID# is different. The original Bug remains open, let's hope it will promptly be resolved.

Same issues, except I can't roll back because from 10.8.3-10.8.4 I changed to an SSD. So the only 'roll-back' option I have is to install the old HD and that's just more moving in the wrong direction. I'd be really esstatic if Apple would just get this issue resolved and quickly? so I can get my media pc back onto my 60" DVI connection and not a temporary 23" HDMI monitor.

I just went from 10.6.8 to 10.8.4 and couldn't get a signal to my external monitor ...until I did this:

Go to system preferences, displays, uncheck the 'show profiles for this display only'

then click on 'Adobe RGB (1998)', hold option, click 'detect displays' and BINGO. My monitor is working.

Macbook pro laptop went a funny colour but then I could just click back to Color LCD and hey everything seems to be working ...so far. Hope this helps some of you.

I've got the same problem.

15-inch, MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) with a mini displayport

When I updated to OS X 10.8.4 I could no longer connect to my external display. I use a moshi mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Thought it was the adapter going wonky. Just bought a belkin and still doesn't work. HDMI cable works, tested on other devices.

Out of curiosity I was checking my system specs. (under About This Mac) Under Hardware, it lists Thunderbolt--which I don't have. It doesn't list mini-DisplayPort. I was wondering if it did before. If this has anything to do with the problem.

It is definitely the 10.8.4 update. We have a second mac that I tested the display before and after the update, and the same thing happened. Mirror display worked on 10.8.3, but not after updating to 10.8.4. Both computers are using genuine "Apple" connectors.

The only solution I found was do a Time Machine restoration back to 10.8.3. This worked.
