Q: My screen flickers in Photoshop on my 2013 Macbook Air.

Add me to the list. I'm running Photoshop CC on a core i7 2013 Macbook Air with 8gb of RAM.

I just noticed it today when I zoomed into the image. At first I thought just the image flickered but then I kept moving the cursor and the flicker only got worse. What started as a black flicker across the bottom of the screen became the entire screen shaking and warping.

I was able to close Photoshop and the problem ended. I then restarted the computer and was able to go into the image without it flickering.

I tried what you suggested and the flickering stopped! Why? Very strange.

Yeah the problem is sporadic on my computer. There's no guarantee that it'll happen every time, so I wouldn't say you've fixed it

Yes, I definitely would not call it a fix. More of a fluke that it worked the second time around. I am still experiencing the issues. I assume we all will until Apple, Adobe or another party can come up with a fix for it.

I am curious, is it damaging the screen when it flickers? If so I will avoid photoshop like the plague.

This is clearly a problem with Adobe's software since as people have stated the problem goes away when you are not using Photoshop. I'd say it could also be an Apple issue too in some aspects, but eventually it will be figured out and fixed either Apple or Adobe or both together.

I would acutally say this is a issue with GPU acceleration issue  (graphics rendering). Adobe is not at fault here this has been cleaarly stated to my now by apple. If it was an adobe issue it would not be contained to one apple model and one GPU.

Did someone tried to go into Photoshop Preferences > Performance then tried to change "Advanced Graphics Processor Settings" to see if it helps ?

There used to be an issue with Windows 8 and AMD GPUs (see here) and a workaround involving these preferences.

Yes, this happens for me with or without the graphics acceleration turned on

New Macbook Air 13", OSX 10.8.4, 1.7Ghz core i7, 8Gb 1600mhz DDR3, 512 HDD

Preferences > Performance -> "Enable OpenGL Drawing" on/off, doesn't matter

My Photoshop CC trial expired, so can't verify there.

obvously if you turn acceleration off it would happen, thanks for checking that again tho. Im over this, and over Mac back to linux i go. peace and good luck with your problems.

It's not obvious to me why an Apple display driver/firmware issue would happen when GPU acceleration off. It could just as conceivably be only when GPU accel is on, if the issue is with an API the GPU uses.

Seriously? Enjoy Linux. Apple will fix this problem just like it does others. I opened a trouble ticket with AppleCare so the issue is documented. I also submitted a bug report and followed up with additional information when Apple asked to help resolve the problem. In the meantime I'm enjoying my new 13-inch MBA - it's the best ultra portable computer out there. If it is the computer Apple will fix or replace it. If it is the OS or Adobe the respective company will fix their own problem.

Hello I'm an unfortunate new owner of Mba 13" 2013, and also experiencing the same flickering problems again and again... I've been checking different forums / discussions, still stuck with my machine, but i wonder why isn't there any discussions update since 4/5 days now... Does it mean that everybody found out solutions (with updates, patches, from apple or adobe) since then or simply just turned back the faulting Macbook Air to Apple to get money back and wait?

I called and discussed with Apple twice in the past two weeks. They called me back last Wednesday and we ran a diognostic program that recorded data during the flickering. That information was sent back to Apple. They have people now working on the issue and promised me an update by the middle of next week. They are aware of the comments on this forum and the articles across the internet discussing the flickering. They sounded truely interested in solving the problem. I will post as soon as I hear from them.

I'm running out of time so i think i'd better get the Mba back to china, wait to see if the problem is solved, and then order a new one if so.

By the way, did they already have a clue about either it's software or hardware issue when you called them?
