Unlocked Motorola SLVR and iSync & bluetooth - Solution found!

Hello Mac users!

I have scowered the web looking for a solution to the unlocked SLVR not working via bluetooth with isync. It's called firmware people! In order to get BT working on your unlocked SLVR you will need the following firmware :

R4513 G_08.B7.DCR_RB_PDS015_LP0024_DRM0101_JPJAVA_G_08_L7_05_00_07R_GSTL7T675NL1311FF.shx

You will also unfortunately need a PC and a usb cable as well as other software.

I've done and tested this. My phone also had this problem i just kept on installing the flashes until one tested right. WARNING THIS IS NOT FOR CINGULAR BRANDED OR LOCKED PHONES. THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ITUNES ON YOUR PHONE.

My phone was a german branded phone but now its just a plain jane motorola slvr.

WhiteX, I understand your annoyance here, but to Apple's credit, it actually seems to have been a motorola problem, YES apple should probably have done something about it by now if Motorola weren't going to, or at least got together with M to sort out a fix to this problem, but what causes the problem is that M crippled the bluetooth on their phones, when OS x asks the phone "what bluetooth stuff do you do?" the phone won't tell the computer "I do File transfer and Handsfree and being a modem etc etc" so OS x can't do much more about it. Also, I have used my mac with a plethora of other phones via bluetooth flawlessly, I mean really really easy, good support. Regards your "everything works (doesn't work) on a mac" gripe, This is the only thing I've ever encountered that has caused me trouble, and now I've fixed the phone, it seems to be fine (effectively a motorola-end problem).

Despite all this, I am completely in agreement with you that
A) Apple tech support are useless, (at least on the phone) they don't give you any kind of helpful answer to this problem (because they just don't know, they're phone drones, not techies, ironic I know)
B) Apple should warn people that things aren't always perfectly compatible, but as I said, this was a one-off for me.

My sympathies!

I recently received a Motorola SLVR L7 from Orange UK as a free upgrade for my V3.

With the V3 I could connect to the internet via Bluetooth/GPRS.

With the L7 I get the "There were no supported services found on your device" when trying to pair the phone - even though it already has the the latest firmware (R4513 G_08.B7.DCRRB) installed. Therefore Nick Rutter's fix won't work in my situation.

I've tried a master reset on the phone and also installed the Motorola Software Update package from the Motorola website on my Windows XP machine, but it just confirms that I already have the latest software version on my phone.

I sincerely hope someone from Motorola and/or Apple reads this thread and provides a solution SOON !!

Actually! Although you've got a DCR_RB firmware, the other aspects of the phone's software are likely to be different, hence I believe adamantly that my fix WILL work, really, try it.

ALSO! ++UPDATE++

Is the new link, as people reported that the previous one didn't work, tell me how things work out. I'm also trying to put the Fix-It pack in the public folder of my iDisk, but that's not working either, it gets stuck after copying when it hangs on "closing file" and then nothing happens, any ideas?

I realy understand your point, Nick, but the fact is: I've tried my phone with several other bluetooth devices (windows PCs, Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones, etc,) and it works! I know Motorola cripted bluetooth, but I can't understand why is it only with Mac Bluetooth Chips that it doesn't work!

The problems I mention about Apple is that utopia they try to sell: not only my Mac was broken after 3 months of usage (wich caused me a giant headacke because I depend a lot on the computer for college work, etc.), but also the Superdrive and Trackpad were far from working "flawlessly". Not to mention the fact that I had to wait more than a month and a half for they to pick my computer at the store (it was repaired on the factory, that is located far from where I live), and another 3 weeks for it to return. Finaly, when I thought I'd live "happly ever after" with my Mac, I buy a Bluetooth phone to finaly use my computer bluetooth capacities and discover: 1) My computer doesn't support the phone; 2) Apple/ Motorola (with the typical indifference of a giant company) doesn't give any support on the subject.
So, I think I've got plenty of reasons to be disapointed wit h Apple, and perhaps to do a bit more thinking before I buy my next computer.
But to be fair I need to say that Mac OS X is, in fact, superior to Windows XP, in many, many ways. But after this experiences, I feel happy for not getting rid of my Windows PC...

And, BTW, the new link doesn't work too...
My sympathies and thanks again for your attention...

I've been busy working on a solution for my hosting problems and here is what I recommend:

You can try again but using a new link

http://www.nickrutter.co.uk/file_download/7

Or get the firmware file separately, here (save linked file as, then rename from
.rar.txt to just .rar)

You have to login as me 😉

pass fixmyslvr

http://slvrfiles.info/downloads.php?catid=15&downloadid=20

and then download my SLVR Fix-It pack without firmware here

http://www.nickrutter.co.uk/file_download/8

This contains everything you need MINUS the actual firmware file (which you just downloaded separately) and
then you should be ready to play ball!

Hope this helps!

Yeah, get a memory card if you don't already have one, and then set the mode to memory card in settings > connectivity > usb settings and then it appears as a drive in OS x. Alternatively you can use that nice new flashy cable of yours with a windows computer for a few minutes to fix the bluetooth problem, whatever floats your boat, nb my updated links pack above.
