I had the same problem in January. I got old unwanted apps off my Macbook. Now I want to do it again and I can't remember what I did.

I have the Sidebar showing but when I highlight an app and go to the tool bar, DELETE is grayed out.

I did something last time to get the drop down asking me if I want to delete but I can't figure out how to do it now.

I Do not have a mouse so I can't right click.

Help please.

Thanks

Rickmet - Thanks for helping me find the right place to go to delete. What can I do, if when I go to the app library, there's nothing there? The music is there when I click on MUSIC on the library drop down, but nothing when I click on APPS or BOOKS. I'm about to pull my hair out so I'd appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks again!

Open iTunes but don't connect your device (iPod,iPhone, iPad) to the computer. Once iTunes is open - in the upper left hand corner click on the drop down menu and select "Apps" as depicted below.

Once in the "Apps" menu you can left click any "App" and highlight it. You can then right click to get the delete menu or go to the top of your screen and select "Edit" and then "Delete" as depicted in the image below. Hope this helps.

Do you have more than one Apple ID account (or iTunes account)? Sometimes we create more than one account and then download music from one account and apps, books or other purchases from another account. What ever account you have logged in to will show what purchases you've made in that specific account.

In iTunes on the upper right you'll find the iTunes store. (click on it until it says "Library." Then on the left upper part you'll see your account name (email address.) login and see what music, apps and books you have purchased.

I'm on a Mac and also faces the same issue...can't delete apps from my iTunes then wa-lah!

The key to it...you need to eject your iPhone out from iTune before you can delete any of the apps.

On the top left tab...click eject iPhone. Once its ejected click on the same tab for a pull down menu...select Apps and from there you can just hightlight the apps and click on the Delete button. It'll ask for confirmation to delete and keep or delete and thrash.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to Rickmet for the successful suggestion!

To guyjacobson,

Please disconnect your device from your itune.

You can see the drop down menu (just left to the cloud icon) on the left upper conner of iTune.

(if you can't still find it, switch to full screen view and you will see.)

Then, you can select the App from the drop down list and you can delete as you like.

I hope it will help.

Cheers!

Htet

The issue is where you're looking at. If you're looking at the apps in itunes that are on your device, then you can't click the delete button & get rid of them. You have to hit "done" & see them actually IN your library. On the left is the drop down "music, apps, etc" choose apps from there & it gives you a large list of just the apps. From there you can select, hit delete, confirm.

Please has anyone succeeded in deleting any individual books purchased from the iTunes Store and now showing in the new iBooks.(i.e.since Mavericks).

Wheras the answers appearing above deal specifically with finding for example,*Apps" a similar procedure for removal does not appear available for Books as they longer appear in the drop down zone.

Thank you.

Hey Everyone!!! I Googled this exact issue, came to this page, looked at some tips, and I found that Viznu4 is right!!! I have an old, crappy dell PC, and I followed his instructions, and was able to delete all the apps I did not want! Just go to your library>click MUSIC (with the two tiny up/down arrows @ top left of the page)>click APPS> and you just select the apps you dont want, and press "delete" on your keyboard!! Easy as eatin' pie!!

Hope this helped!!

I think I might have an answer as to why the "delete" key works for some people and not for others -- there are two ways to see your iPhone Apps in iTunes.

You have to switch to the right view. When you first plug in your iPhone and iTunes comes up, you're in the Sync view. You can install or remove apps from the phone, but not from the library. To get to the library, click on the button in the top left. (It took me a while and a lot of head-beating to figure this out!)
