All - I have not read all of the responses, but I did spend 6 hours with Apple support (I am appreciative of their Customer Service) and wanted to share what I learned. Please know that I will not view any responses, and don't need angry comments. (1) my computer is old, but my software is not, a new computer is not needed (2) I could not uninstall all of the itunes software in order to update itunes (3) Apple had me create a new user on my computer account and try to download the new itunes - some how, this enabled me to remove the "itunes software update" component that would not budge (from my original user account) and indicated that my malware and windows defender were keeping itunes from being updated (4) I removed Malware and turned off the defender and was able to upload itunes successfully in the original user account (5) I turned back on Defender and reloaded malware and then deleted the second user account. I hope this helps someone.
