iPad stuck in reboot loop, won't restore

My ipad 2 is a year and a half old, and not jailbroken. Came home from work the other day to find it in reboot loop (white apple, flash to black screen, white apple, etc.). My pc won't recognize it when I plug it into iTunes unless I attempt to restore. The first time it downloaded the software then the restore failed with error code 9. (Failed on multiple tries) I tried an older pc. The restore also failed, with error code 3149. I tried to address the error code 3149 by fixing my hosts, but couldn't find the faulty "gs.apple" code line. I tried my pc again and then a friend's mac and got error code 9. I've also tried different USB ports and cords and making sure I had no other USB devices connected.

I've tried all the online tricks and videos to no avail. Any suggestions other than Apple Store?

Basically I tried every suggestion here. The leave it in a recovery mode menu didn't work because either recovery mode would end in 15 minutes automatically or Ipad would actually run out of juice while suspended in recovery mode and power down.

The restore/update didn't work for same reason, it would run out of battery unable to charge fast enough and power down.

I think those solutions work for Ipod/Iphone but Ipad is more power hungry.

So the solution that did work for me was this:

http://www.daniellehatfield.com/2014/05/how-to-save-your-ipad-from-the-loop-of-d oom-a-true-story-of-patience-and-curse-words-by-danielle-hatfield/

It's lame and tiresome but it works. Basically you sit like 40 minutes and everytime you see white apple logo you hold "Home + Power buttons" to reset ipad, and you repeat this for around 20 to 40 minutes.

After 40 minutes you just let it power on, you should have your ipad charged by 3~4% with this method, enough for you to very quickly holl the power button and slide the prompt to shut down the ipad.

Now when the iPad is shut down manually like this, it should not attempt to power on when it has enough battery. Leave the iPad charging for hour or two and you are fine.

Obviously it's better to try every other method before reverting to this one, because it's tiresome. But if nothing worked just fire up a 40 minute TV series and keep resetting your device until the show is over.

For days, I tried every solution offered here and anywhere to no avail. Therefore I started looking for battery replacement which left the iPad alone for about a week to (presumably) drain to zero.

Then, just for the try, I plugged in the charger (happens not to be the original). Luckily it didn't sense it and didn't start showing the apple. So carefully I stepped back, told everyone not to touch it and let it be.

After about two hours, my wife cried out "It started, went blank and I saw it reached 34%!"

Lo and behold, I pressed the Home and true, it was on and 34% charged. Didn't take any chance, pressed the on/off and slided to properly shut it down and let it charge undisturbed as long as needed.

Hope this will help somebody.

Actually facing exactly the same problem.

My Ipad2 was working correctly then i tryed to reset it using it's built in function (not using Itunes) and he started to reboot continuosly. Apple logo/Black screen/Apple logo.

Sometimes I can see a white progression bar under Apple logo but after something like 20 seconds ipad resets again and again (the white bar arrives at a maximum of 10% more or less).

If i force restart two times pressing power/home button while connected to the wall charger on ipad screen appear itunes icon, if I connect it via usb cable Itunes recognize the ipad and tryes to update/reset it but with no luck as error3194 comes out.

Do u think I can save my ipad just waiting a week to completely drain the battery and the charging it again with its original charger?

I was experiencing the same issue just a few minutes ago. I was freaking out thinking a circuit was fried. I tried many things in vain. Finally, I found a solution. To resolve this, whenever the apple logo appeared, I held down the home and lock button. When the apple logo disappeared and the screen went blank again, I let go. I repeated this 50 times in counting. If the red battery symbol appears, start over. The only thing you should see on your screen is the apple logo and a blank screen repeatedly. After 50 times, let it reboot (don't hold down the lock and home button when the apple symbol appears). It should come up at a low percentage. I advise you to leave it alone, and give it time to charge. Make sure that during this process, you have it plugged into a charger. The reasoning behind this is that the battery is drained. Every time it reboots, it uses up all its battery before it can come back to life. By holding down the home and lock button, you are preventing it from trying to reboot. This gives it enough time to charge. I hope this helps! 😉

I solved the problem on my iPad. It will likely work for you as well if these are your symptoms:

-- when plugged in, the iPad goes into a loop that never gets past the Apple logo

-- between loops, you see an occasional red battery icon that indicates the iPad is off and charging

-- you can initiate recovery mode, but it always ends in some sort of error message on iTunes

Here is the issue. Your iPad has insufficient battery power to start up. Normally the iPad will not even ATTEMPT to restart until there is enough battery power to do the job. In this case, there is a software glitch that is telling the iPad to try to boot even though the battery can't last long enough to finish. So round and round you go, charging a little, attempting to boot, shutting off, charging a little .... ad infinitum.

Your goal is to get the iPad sufficiently charged to complete the boot cycle. Here's how:

-- plug the iPad into a power source. Ideally, use a 10W charger for the iPad, not the 5W iPhone charger. Likewise, ideally do not plug it into your computer either, as the Mac will only charge at 5W as well. Don't have the 10W charger? No worries, proceed below and add a little charging time to be safe.

-- find a way to hold down the home button (front of the iPad) and the off/on button (upper right of the iPad) simultaneously for at least a few hours. This prevents the loop cycle and allows the iPad to finally charge. How to hold the buttons down? Use your ingenuity. I used strong gaffers tape to hold down the on/off button and a clamp (gently applied!) with a thin sponge under it to depress the home button.

-- After a few hours or less, the iPad will be sufficiently charged to restart normally.

As for why this loop occurs to begin with, I can't say. In my case I let the iPad run down, but I had done that many other times with no issues.
