new iPhone restore from old backup and lost new photos

Hi there

I recently got a iphone 5 and from the excitement of seeing Obama in cape town, took pictures of his speech and even recorded my friends shaking his hand and have brief converstaions. Now when i connected the new phone into my mac, itunes requested a restore from old backup. So agreed, not knowing that all the new photos / movies of the US president would be deleted!!!

Can i reftieve them or not. and why doenst Apple provide such informaition to users for new restorations?

Please help!

So i tried this, and it worked quite well. I copied the folder elsewhere, and added .jpg to the end of all the files. Only thing is that only half the files in the folder turned into images after adding .jpg, and the other half didnt change when i added the .jpg. Any idea what extension I should add to change those filed? I tried .png and .mov and still nothing, and I know the picture is in there because some similar ones that I took that same day turned back into images, just a particular one im looking for didnt for whatever reason

I have just got a new iphone 5s and the same thing happened to me, got some new snaps on it and then plugged it into my pc for the first time, got asked if I wanted to restore my old data or start it up as a new phone, without any warning that my current data would be wiped. So I ended up losing my new pictures, but after faffing about I managed to find them again on my pc! But I hadn't previously backed them up or imported them into my computer. I just went on my pc went into Library's / pictures and I found a folder called photo stream and it turns out the pictures I lost where in their so I just saved them on my pc. I don't know, its worth a try I guess

Hi,

For any one else struggling with this and you have iOS10, try your recently deleted album in your Photos app. If not, try restoring from an iTunes or iCloud backup. However this will only work if you had created a backup before the photos were deleted.

If you haven't created a backup, you can recover deleted photos straight from your iPhone with a program we developed here in my office.

Music is not part of a backup for copyright reasons. If you purchased the content from iTunes, you can always redownload it for free. if it came from CDs you purchased, then it had to be synced from a computer and should be on your computer and therefore recoverable with just a few clicks. The copyright aspect is Apple's cost of doing business with the music lables, not a choice they're making to inconvenience their customers.

Hi lorestan,

Indeed, if you're using iTunes to restore data, there will no be a warning messages to remind you that it will erase your current data.

However, do you sync those photos to iCloud? Please login iCloud.com to check out whether there are here.

Or, you might need to directly scan your iPhone for the lost photos via iPhone Data Recovery - iFoneTips.

Hope it helps.
