What if it only recovered an early version of the document and there's nothing in the TMP file? I just lost an entire essay.

This definitely helped me, but the Text Edit only provided me with 1/4 of my paper and the rest was symbols and text that made the file look like hieroglyphics. Is there a way I can change that?
