I changed my appleID and primary email and now I can not access iCloud. ICloud shows my old appleID but I can't change it. How do I get iCloud to work with my updated ID?

I Changed my ISP and therefore changed my email address, which caused me to change my appleID. I had no problems making the changes to my appleID but now I am having problems with iCloud. My old ID is still showing as my iCloud ID and I can not see where or how to change this. I keep getting an annoying pop up box to enter the password for my OLD appleID as well as error messages that I can't back up to iCloud.

CAn someone please tell me how I can fix this so my iCloud works.

THank you!!!!!

I was also having the same problem with my iClound account. My phone would not let me change the username which was an old, nonexistent email address I no longer had. Just wanted to let everyone know how I solved this isuue on my iPhone 4.

I went to settings and opened iCloud. It did let me except the terms but it was still prompting me for a password. I selected cancel there. Underneath the "Account" line with the wrong email it lists what information you have turned on to sync with iCloud. I turned all of these OFF. I chose "keep on iphone" just to make sure I didn't lose any information. After I turned all of these off I was able to select "delete" at the bottom of the page without being prompted for a password. It immediately changed to a sign in screen where I could enter my correct apple ID and password. Signed in without problems.

Hope this helps someone. I was almost to the point of pulling my hair out 🙂

This is incredible. I have done everything. Created new email address, changed password, created a totally new me. iTunes and the Apple website recognize the new ID. BUT THE iPAD - and now my iPhone too - STILL USES THE ORIGINAL EMAIL. This did not happen until I updated to iOS7. Is Apple even aware of this? I can'ty download apps, or even update them. Am I supposed to throw my devioces away?

Hi smwarr,

Yes, you have to turn off Find My iPhone before you can delete the iCloud account.

If you simply changed your existing Apple ID and password, or your password only (on that existing ID), then type in your new password to turn off Find My iPhone.

If you set up a new ID, then you have to put in the password for the old Apple ID that is displaying to turn off Find My iPhone.

Once Find My iPhone is turned off, you can delete your iCloud account.

Cheers,

Hi again,

OK, so any apps purchsed with that old ID will be tied to it forever. Easiest way to manage that is to go into Manage Your Apple ID and log onto the old ID. Change the password on that old ID to match the password on your new ID and keep them the same from now on.

That way, it won't matter which ID is asking for a password to update the app, it will be the same.

Cheers,

GB

Thanks so much Gail. I really, really appreciate your time. I understand about purchased apps. I fear I am now stuck with old versions forever, because the old email and password no longer work. I can live with that. But I can't download new apps. Maybe my problem is one of semantics. When I said I "created'' a new ID, what I actually did was "change'' the ID. Twice. Two tries with two different email addresses and two different passwords. I may have messed things up beyond repair... Except it still boggles my mind that everything else recognizes my most recent ID except the app store when accessed by my iPhone or iPad. I even access my iTunes account on my computer with the new ID...

OK. I'm an idot. Of all things to forget. I did not sign out and back in to iTunes&App Store on each device (I only did that with iCloud). once i signed out, I signed back in with new ID and password, did a very simple verification for billing and all my problems disappeared. Cannot believe it took me so long.... Thanks again Gail!

I agree!!!! efanewshand- you are legend. This problem was driving crazy or weeks and could find no solution. I spent a2 hohaurs on the phone with Apple and they acknowledged that this is a known problem but they had no solution to offer. The best they could suggest was to back-up the iPad to my computer through iTunes, then completely wipe-ocut my iPad and then start again and then restore my content from my computer. Tried this (took a significant namout of time and ended up losing some content) but when I restored the iPad, it imported the same appleid that was the problem in the first place. Your suggested solution worked!!! THANK YOU!!! How come nobody at Apple suggest this????
