iSight not working with Webex, GoToMeeting or Lync...BUT works with Skype, Facetime, Photobooth (June 2013 MBA)

Computer are inherently designed to work with 3rd party software - all of the hardware on a computer is intended to function properly when using 3rd party software. A camera that can only be used with Apple software, or any hardware component that can only be used with the Apple applications, is severely crippled in a way that deviates from all computer norms and consumer expectations. You may not use the camera frequently but many do and clearly Apple believes that it is a key selling point. Some people rely on these devices for their livelihood.

Additionally, we know this is not simply a question of first party vs 3rd party software - Apple's own software does not work with the device. This is clearly not a closed vs. open question - it is a software bug that changes the status quo negatively for current owners, without notice or remedy.

Imagine a few similar scenarios:

-What if your display flickered on Chrome and Firefox but not Safari.

-What if your mouse was smooth on all Apple applications but not on any 3rd party apps.

-What if your keyboard was less responsive on a non-Apple app.

-What if you speaker only worked through iTunes, but not any other program.

Any updates about camera issue?

GoToMeeting Version 5.9 now addresses this issue for Mountain LIon but I have not had any luck with WebEx. Has this been addressed in Mavericks?

Mavericks solved the isue for Skype, however Google hangouts and Mac:Lync still do not work

How /when is the issue resolved? Threre is no Skype or 10.9 update. Skype does not work (camera not recognized) on the new 64bit MB air or MB Pro retina and a Skype engineer said they have no interest in supporting 64bit processing. People should know this, particularly schools and other organizations that rely on Skype when making their purchasing decissions.

If you have some way to make Skype work with these MB Pros and MB Airs I'd love to hear about it.

Not sure how - but since the upgrade to Mavericks Skype video is fully funcitonal at my MBA ( 2013), Again - all other apps still do not work ( Lync, Hangouts)

Still no joy on my MB air, no updates available, tried remove and reinstall Skype and then fresh OS reinstall on a MB Pro Retina.

For what it is worth. While I have had problems with GotoMeeting (fixed with V5.9) and WebEx (apparently now fixed also) I never had a problem with Skype. Lync I never tried on my 2013 Air.

To confirm Lync for Mac Version 14.0.6 still does not work. There are no options for video in the Preferences.

My Mid 2011 MBA always worked but now I'm on a Late 2013 MBPr with Facetime HD it doesn't. Seems it only affects the HD version of the camera.

I'm all for Apple leading the way in rewriting code from the ground up to make it more efficient but sometimes if it ain't broke then don't fix it!! Apple created issued with Wifi on iPhones in iOS 6 when it was rewriten.

Starting to get the feeling that Apple are too big to care anymore, "it's our way or the highway" seems to be the Apple tag line!

Anyway, hope it get's fixed soon, but if it doesn't I'll just have to listen rather than watch!! 🙂

Skype 6.9 works on my new MBP 13" retina, but Lync 365 still doesn't on this box or the MBA. I've tried with Lync for Mac native or using a PC emulator.

Looks like we need to find a video driver for the Mac System Prefs (why isn't one there?) or MS Lync needs to find a way to recognize the FaceBook HD Video camera. Anybody able to get their attention?

I installed Windows 8.1 in Bootcamp on my late 2013 MBPr and added Lync 2013. This didn't recognise the FaceTime HD camera properly - just showing a paused image. However, I then installed Parallels desktop on the OSX partition and pointed it at the Windows bootcamp partition. On running Lync 2013 within Parallels - the FaceTime HD camera started working properly. I cannot explain why - but at least I have a workable solution for now.

Very interesting - first time I've seen Parallels beat VMWare on a device controller. I'm using the latter with Win7 Pro and a similar Lync 2013 setup as well, but without success. There is no video controller in the Device Manager that I can find either - does Parallels include one? Would be great to get this working as a stopgap. Thanks.

Hey snsuper - I've been fighting the issue with webex and my MB and am interested in your note that it's been fixed. How did you get that fix from webex?
