iPhone 4 facetime not working

For some reason Facetime in my iPhone 4 is not working. This started last week only. Everything is working except for this. iPhone 5 and iPads are working though. Any idea how I can fix this? Are you also having the same problem?

iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3

Guys , while you could writing about the tests you are doing on your own, do call Apple phone support to make it officially known . No one here seems to have a solution to the problem.

Btw, just to discover the root cause ...is there anyone facing the issue (FaceTime not working ) on an iPhone 4 that has NEVER been Jailbroken ? (Never ever Jailbroken ).....

I have the same problem too.

My Iphone 4 has never ever been jailbroken, it was one of the first batch (bought within a fortnight of release), is on ios 6.1.3 on the O2 network. I only have one itunes id but it is shared with an ipod 4 which can facetime just fine.

It has been going on since early july.

And now I'm off to contact apple support and raise a ticket as it seems that none of these solutions work for all

I have been reading this thread from the start as I was one of the first to post on this discussion. It seems to me that the one defining feature for all in spontaneously losing Face Time with "Connecting/Connection Lost" issues is that we all have iPhone 4 launch day/original/early models that have SIM cards.

And just a note... much thanks to Gail for moderating - and she isn't even experiencing the issue! It sounds like the work-around (which she posted on page 9 of this discussion) is working.

Yes, it would be nice for Apple to acknowledge the issue and fix it forever. With so many folks affected, one can only wonder about the resistance for Apple to acknowledge/address this.

Makes me wonder if Pelletier was right about this issue possibly being related to the June International Trade Commission ban on early model iPhone 4 sales in the US, which President Obama reversed earlier this week. The ban was related to an unspecified technology patent battle between Apple and Samsung. I'm generally not a skeptical/conspiracy type person, but the timing is notable.

My iPhone 4 bought soon after launch day was never jailbroken. Just unlocked by Apple/AT&T a few months after my contract was up. I am now with T-Mobile.

Just to add to hoagie1's last post, a co-worker of mine bought four CDMA iPhone 4s on Verizon for his family when they came out. No Facetime issues there and they use it daily.

I still haven't tried the factory restore. I simply don't have the time and it seems like an extreme solution for a problem that Apple could probably fix easily. In the mean time I'm using Skype which works great.

My iPhone 4 is having the same issue. I saw one post that mentioned updated carrier settings. Did this start when 14.2 rolled out? It is not applicable to the iPhone 4 but it does install so may impact? I've seen some references to two versions of 14.2 maybe the early installs have the problem (which comes back with a restore?) but wiping to factory and getting the "latest" 14.2 works? No idea how to check or if this makes sense, just a thought.

Good morning,

I would like to share my experience with a similar problem in France (Connection...connection failed) and tested with various people in UK and France with the same result. This problme occured beginning of July.

I have contacted the support line in Paris. They told me they were not aware of any problems with FT. They suggested to restore to factory setting which I refused as I do not consider the problem being with my Iphone but within Apple.

I went to an Apple Store near Paris and was told that the problem was reported by lots of people but the person I talked to, was not aware of any action taken by Apple. Obviously customers are not taken very seriously they seemed to be more concerned by sales than our little FT problem. They are right, I've since switched to Skype to my satisfaction.

I got my complain registered and was given a ticket number (491723359).

I do not expect much from Apple as I was not taken either very seriously adding to the fact that Apple considers issues published in the various Forums not a realiable source of complaint or information...

Regards

My iphone 4 was pretty close to release day too.

I wonder if the commonality is that this is happening to the iphone 4's purchased close to release day.

I remember standing in line for mine.

Though, I've looked at some of the model numbers that some of you guys have posted, but found that it did not match mine. this is leading me to think it's an app that has been released along time ago that could be causing this issue. An app that was released way back when the iphone 4 was released, recently updated and hasn't been downloaded recently by new users.

that's very far fetched and still doesn't much sense.

Just brainstorming out loud.

Just to reiterate: problem is not IOS version (as I still had 6.1), and model related (unless ofcourse it more than 1 model that is affected).

Here's a list that gets backup on itunes:

  • Contacts* and Contact Favorites (regularly sync contacts to a computer or cloud service such as iCloud to back them up).
  • App Store Application data including in-app purchases (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).
  • Application settings, preferences, and data, including documents.
  • Autofill for webpages.
  • CalDAV and subscribed calendar accounts.
  • Calendar accounts.
  • Calendar events.
  • Call history.
  • Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.
  • Game Center account.
  • Home screen arrangement.
  • In-app purchases.
  • Keychain (this includes email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. If you encrypt the backup with iOS 4 and later, you can transfer the keychain information to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, you can restore the keychain only to the same iOS device. If you are restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you will need to enter these passwords again.)
  • List of External Sync Sources (MobileMe, Exchange ActiveSync).
  • Location service preferences for apps and websites you have allowed to use your location.
  • Mail accounts (mail messages are not backed up).
  • Installed Profiles. When restoring a backup to a different device, installed configuration profiles are not restored (such as accounts, restrictions, or anything which can be specified through an installed profile.) Any accounts or settings that are not associated with an installed profile will still be restored.
  • Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps.
  • Microsoft Exchange account configurations.
  • Network settings (saved Wi-Fi hotspots, VPN settings, network preferences).
  • Nike + iPod saved workouts and settings.
  • Notes.
  • Offline web application cache/database.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices (which can only be used if restored to the same phone that did the backup).
  • Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, offline data, and currently open pages.
  • Saved suggestion corrections (these are saved automatically as you reject suggested corrections).
  • Messages (iMessage and carrier SMS or MMS pictures and videos).
  • Trusted hosts that have certificates that cannot be verified.
  • Voice memos.
  • Voicemail token. (This is not the voicemail password, but is used for validation when connecting. This is only restored to a phone with the same phone number on the SIM card).
  • Wallpapers.
  • Web clips.
  • YouTube bookmarks and history.

* Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. Back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM), iCloud, or another cloud-based service to avoid any potential contact data loss.
