iPhone 4 facetime not working

For some reason Facetime in my iPhone 4 is not working. This started last week only. Everything is working except for this. iPhone 5 and iPads are working though. Any idea how I can fix this? Are you also having the same problem?

iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3

Hi jan,

Thanks for posting back. I think that your experience may help some of the folks here to find an easy resolution to their problems. Let's just hope we hear of some more users who have similar success by changing their passwords!

All - if you do try this solution, don't forget to sign out and back into all of the following:

FaceTime (of course)

iTunes & App Store

Messages

iCloud (you will have to delete the account and sign back into it with your new password - don't worry, you won't lose anything)

I will continue to monitor as all of our friends go through their troubleshooting steps!

Cheers,

I reset my Apple ID password (the original one was not compliant with the new guidelines) but no luck, Facetime still not working, same connection lost issue.

Reminder: iPhone 4 1st gen 6.1.3 on T-MOBILE for the past 9 months or so. Facetime stopped working around July 1st.

Next step: will do a factory reset and add stuff one by one... tomorrow. No time for that today. Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks Gail,

I tried changing the apple id password to no avail.

I have a launch day iPhone 4 AT&T 6.1.3 and like everyone else, I've tried just about everything including an erase all and restore. The next step will be just to erase all and download replacement apps directly from the app store. This has been used as an iPod for the kids since I upgraded to the iPhone 5 last fall. FaceTime worked great until about a month ago but now it doesn't work no matter which apple id is used.

Let me ask this: this iPhone (iPod) has apps that were purchased from more than one apple id. I wonder if that may be the problem. Does everyone else having issues have apps from more than one apple id? For example, my wife bought an app and I then installed it through iTunes onto this iPhone and my iPhone 5. I use the same user profile on windows to manage the whole family's iOS devices, but each phone is using a different apple id.

I have completely reset my iPhone, not to factory original settings, but eliminated all my apps-I did not have many apps, and I have reset every setting that I can from within my iPhone and still nothing...no FaceTime.

I was going to undo the last update but the only way to do that is if I was smart enough and saved the special sfsh file that you need to be able to downgrade - you do not need to 'jailbreak' your phone to downgrade, just to have been prepared and saved the special file. So there is no way to downgrade for me. So I have upgraded my iPhone to IOS 7 and guess what?...FaceTime still does not work! 😟😠 However, rather than getting a 'connection lost' I am now getting a 'FaceTime Not Available' error. Apple has definitely done something in their 6.1.3 software to kill the FaceTime capability of iPhone 4's. I'm on the verge of factory resetting, verify that my FaceTime capability comes back and then add each upgrade back onto my phone untill an upgrade version kills it again. Thanks all for your input.

Hi singlecoil,

I can tell you that I have apps purchased with more than one Apple ID and I am having no issues with FaceTime. I also have an iPhone 4 on AT&T 14.2. One thing that I do not have on is Wifi Syncing. I prefer to sync with the computer.

I'm trying to think of things that would be "living" in the same space as FaceTime. I do have Messages turned on, but I do not have more than a couple of messages that I have saved, so they are pretty clear.

I pretty much use Wifi on my phone to keep things sync'd through iCloud, and that's pretty much it. I have all Automatic Downloads turned off in the iTunes & App Stores, and I do not have iTunes Match.

So, as far as Wifi access via my devices, iCloud is pretty much it.

Anyone game to turn off some of those other Wifi users on your device to see if anything gets better?

Cheers,

Hi again,

One other note. Like you, we use a single User ID signed on to our Computer to house our iTunes library, and we both have our own iTunes IDs that are both authorized to the computer. So we share apps, music, etc. There is definitely a lot of mixing and matching in terms of music and apps on my phone (not to mention an old Apple ID that I also have apps purchased under).

Cheers,

I definitely have downloaded apps to my iPhone using both of my Apple ID's.

But Facetime on my iPone 4 worked for the longest time under those conditions.

It's possible that my Facetime issues do go back to a reset of the password to one of my Apple ID's. Not sure.

But even if it was an Apple ID issue, it's due to changes that Apple made and none that I made.

3000+ views here. 100 replies here. At what point does this go beyond being an "insignificant" system bug to one that Apple needs to begin working on?

Once again, my iPhone uploads all issues automatically to Apple. They know a lot more about what's happeining to our phones than we do.

Check that your Settings/General/About/Diagnostics & Usage is set to "Automatically Send" so Apple gets all this "Connection Lost" data every time any of us tries Facetime and fails (again). Once they look at the data they'll know how to fix the problem. We just have to make enough of a rukus here to get them to look.

I was just trying to set up a new Facebook page "iPhone 4 users getting sick and tired of losing their Facetime connectivity". Couldn't figure out how to start a new page, then got distracted.

DO apple actually look on here??? Does anybody have an email direct to them!! I'm guessing most folk with a 4 just put up with it not working. Bet they put it down to its age, never used it much etc etc etc. but it's a feature of the phone that I paid for and used occasionally. Mainly when my daughters away. I want it back!! Come on apple!! I keep making calls! Just so it logs it!!
