Macbook Air mid 2013 will not USB-charge iPhone 4S or iPad 2.

When plugin of iPhone 4S through USB, with original charging cable, the device will just keep connect/unconnect the power source from the Macbook Air mid2013 haswell.

It is useless.

Any help?

Does ITunes sync with the iPhone or iPad when it is connected? Are you connecting the iPhone or the iPad through a USB hub and if so, is the hub powered (connected to AC power).

You realize you can use an Apple power brick and plug in the cable and charge the devices that way, right?

Hi,

Thanks all for this - fixed the problem with our iPad. iPhones worked fine.

I'm not sure if everyone is aware (it took me a couple of goes) but you have to "turn display off after: never" in both "battery" and "power adapter" for it to work.

I put them both back how I had it straight away and it kept charging. For a couple of minutes............

Better than before though.

Hello NorrinRadd

I recognised the same problem. If my iPad Air 2, iPhone 4S and iPhone SE has less then about 55% power it will not charge. I constantly switch between charging/not charging on my MacBook Air Mid 2013

If i connect these devises with the original cable an the original powersupply it charges normaly!

Maybe Apple can fixes this with an firmwareupdate?

regards

My 2014 MacBook Air will not consistently charge my iPhone nor my iPad. When connected via the USB the charge/not charging battery sign flashes and/or the charge connection sound chimes.

I ran a self diagnostic on the laptop as suggested by online help with Apple. The result indicated that there could be a problem with the battery. Later I took the laptop to the Apple Store to have a diagnostic run as well. Thy indicated that the laptop battery was failing and that it would have to be replaced. Because the battery was failing, it could not produce the flow sufficient to consistently charge the phone or pad.

I have not replaced the battery yet because of time constrains. Apple wants to keep the laptop for a couple of weeks, however due to a work schedule I can not leave with them as I need my computer for work.

I hope someone with a smilier problem finds this helpful in the sense that a diagnostic may be the avenue you'll need to pinpoint the problem!
