"Finder wants to make changes" Why is password required to delete a file?

If I drag an image from my browser to my desktop and later try to delete it, a notice comes up which reads, "The finder wants to make changes" and then asks for my password.

This is very annoying and is new. Whats up?

Thanks.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/.Trash as the path, choose Get Info from the File menu, give yourself Read and Write access to it, and unlock it.

Posting here just in case it may help someone in same situation.

Running Yosemite on an older 2007 MBP.

Had exactly the same problem.

Tried first jamiewindsor's code, restarted. Didn't change a thing.

Booted from the recovery partition and repaired permissions. Again, didn't help.

What worked in my case was a "simple" reassigning read & write permissions (which were already "read & write") and hitting "Apply to enclosed items" (need to get away from the computer, takes A LOT of time). 🙂

Restarted (didn't try without) and everything is fine now.
