Bootcamp will not load Windows installer - No bootable device, insert disk then press any key

Hello, I recently decided to install bootcamp onto my 2009 27" iMac, I have done this before for other people's computers and I thought it would be no different for my own. However, on attempt to install the Windows disk, instead of starting the installer it only gives me an error message saying No bootable device, insert boot disk then press any key. I have tried ejecting the disk and then putting it back into my disk driver but it still seems to give me the same error. I went back into my Mac using Alt(option) key on startup and then set the startup disk as the Windows installer disk but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I also tried booting the disk directly from the startup disk menu is the alt(option) key on startup but that didn't do anything different either.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Also if it helps my computer is a

2009 27" iMac running OSX 10.8.4

And my disk drive is an external drive because my internal SuperDrive went out.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I used bootcamp assistant to produce the USB, which was a brand new scandisk USB 3, that might be the issue, USB 2 or 3, good thought.

Also do NOT hook up parrallels until you have run the Apple utility setup that installs all the drivers and have updated windows through all 268 or so updates to be completely current. I tried opening in parallels prematurely and had to start over.

"The only difference is if your running Mavericks, then you need to re-sign the file to stop boot camp assistant crashing out."

I didn't have much luck finding how to "re-sign" the file so that Boot Camp Assistant doesn't crash. I removed the "Pre" to make the USB work but then Boot Camp Assistant just crashes on startup. I am running Mavericks but don't really think I'm googling correctly. Any help?

You must be using a computer that didn't come with a CD drive because what you did is exactly what the instructions say to do, but thats not working for those of us with Pre-2012 Macs.

I'm downlading the "Command Programs" currently but this fellow says this command will fix the issue of Boot Camp Assistant crashing after removing PRE

sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app

Well I finally figured out my issue.

I bought a LEXAR jump drive, and it finally worked.

3 jump drives later. It FINALLY worked.

Apple made a comment over the phone saying

"It's very picky on which Jump Drive it will read the Installation on."

SO TRY, TRY, AND TRY AGAIN.
