Logic Pro X: Install additional content on external hard drive?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if there are any new, official ways to ask Logic Pro X to store the additional content that is downloaded to a different location (e.g., an external hard drive). So far I haven't found anything in the documentation (though maybe I missed it).

Thanks

Logic Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

OK some updated info on SymbolicLinker

Apparently there is a new version just released on Github version 2.1 that claims to be compatible with latest OS including Sierra.

Old version(s) (2.0X) not compatible with Yosemite or El Capitan AFAIK

This is not an endorsement! Have not used nor downloaded either the app nor the source code to investigate. Here is link, use at your own Risk!

I find using Terminal the best way to go.

Do not use MacUpdate nor any of the conglomerate download services. Search in browser for MacUpdate and Adware to see what I mean. Lots of other "Free download sites" also installing nasty stuff. Always best to get your apps from App Store or directly from trusted developer.

Hope this helps, Greg

Hi Taichijunction

Well if you created the symlinks the files will download to those folders(external drive). If you didn't create the links, LPX will install in the default locations on your internal drive. The article you linked to has the file/folder locations.

If you are in the middle of downloading, you may not see the files until download is complete and the system creates the directory files.

You will also see lots of activity in Activity Monitor as Spotlight indexes the files. LPX will also index the files in the Loop Library, Instruments, Effects etc…

Big download, be patient.

Sounds like you are working it out, that's great.

Best of Luck, Greg

Taichi

Depends what is going where.

There are lots of files, they go lots of places.

Most of what we were talking about were things like samples/loops. If you created the proper symlinks then these files should go to the external. Most of the threads don't even talk about the new Alchemy files.

However, there are other files that need to be on the internal.

After downloads finish, if you find files that should be on the external, then you can move them and create the symlinks.

The only problem is if you don't have enough space on your internal to handle the data even if only for a short while.

Let us know how it goes
