I just bought Logic Pro 9. Logic Pro X released today. Can I get a free upgrade?

I bought Logic Pro 9 not even a month ago. I didn't know Logic Pro X was going to release today. Can I get a free upgrade to the new version?

Not officially no.. but you can always try calling Apple and see if they will do anything for you.

I'm surprised at Apple, usually they have these scenarios planned out with a uniform response in place. Makes me think they're dropping the ball with Pro Apps... like they're an afterthought. The release of FCPX was a real disaster but that was mainly because of the software itself and the sudden disappearance of FCP9.

The fact that quite a few got refunds and others were refused does not look good.

Totally.

If the response was "NO REFUNDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, ALL SALES ARE FINAL"; it's sh*t, but then at least all customers are getting the same treatment. The fact that the response is different, depending on who you speak to is really poor form. They also don't have a formal complaints procedure, so it's virtually impossible to get anybody to listen to you. Whenever I challenge Apple on the fact that other customers have received refunds, I get the stock "these claims aren't verified" and "all sales are final".

I don't dispute the Apple terms - however, if you're planning a major release of software that is more expensive than standard apps (£140 is a lot for some people, regardless of how expensive other DAWs are) I think some pragmatism and common sense is required. For people purchasing Logic Pro 9 in the 7 (or 30?) days leading up to Logic Pro X, it would've been helpful to have a warning/alert on the Mac App Store. As of now, I feel rather cheated/extorted and not at all like using Logic Pro, regardless of the version. Humph 😟
