Recently bought logic pro 9... blah blah... very upset. From the UK

Sorry to start yet another topic about this but im struggling.

Does anyone know the best department for me to PHONE in the UK.

I've tried several different departments and each time havent gotten anywhere. I keep being navigated to the email service. (which I've already used and not had much luck)

Many people on here have said not to bother emailing and to use the phone to request a refund but as of yet no one has even been close to being able to help.

Thanks in advance.

I can understand long term users anger, when you originally purchased logic you were buying into a DAW system/brand that allowed you to upgrade.

If apple are now saying its £139, no upgrades, you simply own this one off product. Then personally I think they need to start telling you exactly how long you can expect your product to remain current. All this secrecy makes some exciting keynote presentations but leaves us all guessing what and when to buy their products.

cirrusboy - If they charged $500/£400 for Logic X and offered upgrades for $200/£140 would you be happier? If it helps i can setup a website that pretend it's so? 🙂

Autocad and apps like that (adobe cs etc.) are increasingly moving to subscription based pricing to protect their income and attempt at reducing piracy, i think Apple have priced this amazingly well, yet all i see are complaints?!

Actually it would . Haha. There is some psycology that comes along with great marketing. They left " the Genuis " out on this one. Don't get me wrong I'm all about streamlining and well 200 is a steal. but this makes the product seem cheaper actually. It's gotten all dumb down and Kid - like. pros are like ***. Makes no sense they should consolidate the product for a general market. That's taking a whole lineage of Pro users and marrying them with Joe GarageBand. the app itself looks like a cross between FCPx and garage band. instead of listening to enigeenrs and upgrading the mixing flexibility ie panning sends L/R knobs moving, duplicating and organizing channel strips in the actual mix window. Like Pro Tools ! They decide to make it garageband pro. ok off on a tangent but you get what I'm saying. it's a two fold Dis

Actually the opposite is true. Hackers eat company's alive when they cheapin up the product and turn their back on loyal customers. There is certain unserlne respect for company's thay uphold integrity in the thay world. Tale care of your

People or the company will suffer.

I'm highly considering a 4 payment plan on protools 11

Jul 19, 2013 10:41 AM in response to cirrusboy7

It's funny really, like with Adobe CS, the subscription model really suits where i am as a business, it's affordable and i will always be up to date and i have access to apps that i may not have originally purchased!

But being self employed free lancer i like the thought of just stopping it if i hit a really tough period!

The subscription and app store purchases, i guess companies have much tighter control on user stats and usage levels that they can use for future marketing and cutting out the middle man must open up far more revenue.

Getting back to Logic however, it seems as though the mix engineers on here are the ones most upset with very little progress for them.. As a songwriter i'm over the moon with the changes, all technicalities aside it's given me a real big creative boost. I feel very comfortable with it, and it's been rock solid so far. I also love the fact that Apple have been decisively clear moving to a 64 bit only platform.

Just because it looks nice doesn't make it a toy- It's just evolution, business has changed - I worked with people that couldn't handle clients coming in to the building without a shirt and tie on, they're now doing business with tatoo'd guys in t-shirts and they're lapping it up!

I sincerely hope Apple pull something out of the bag in the future in reply to the complaints, but i've not followed the development of any Apple software from the start before, so will be interesting for me reading all the comments here and seeing where people end up.

Gotcha. Yeah the midi effects, instruments and stack tracks are Great. But i gotta tell you from someone who owns various dedicated real drummer plugs. Addictive, BFD etc the drummer thing is hilarious. The sounds are *****. But hey Im sure you will have fun and write away. That's where the magic starts. For people like me i guess theres always protools unless apple decides to listen to engineers anytime soon. Apple bought logic form emagic back on early 2000 the Mixer acutely became less Flexible as the years went by. Meehh

Jul 19, 2013 11:20 AM in response to cirrusboy7

Mate, i've used Logic since the Atari ST days when it was Notator i'm not new to the platform, i just haven't been that active on a forum, or been an early adopter like this before - normally give it a few updates first... But at the price, it was really an impulse purchase!

I've toured with Radiohead, Pearl Jam and Dire Straights over the years and was asked to cover for Jimi Hendrix when he was ill, so ive been there and done it... (Some all of that is a lie!) haha!

I use Steve Slate Drums with a midi kit, but i can still see a place for drummer when i'm jamming on my guitar, anything that integrates simply just removes any barriers that can take me away from a creative idea - Music has got to primarily about enjoyment, and i'm at my happiest when coming up with ideas, anything that helps that is invaluable.

I can't even begin to explain how excited i was to see a tuner built in!!! Honestly!! 🙂

Staying with Drummer, You can pick up the region and drop it straight into a software instrument as midi data so there's no reason to be held back by the standard kits sounds either - Personally, i think they sound pretty good, not overly processed either which gives you plenty of options if you can't drum, or haven't got access to a good drummer.

I would really like to know how the mixer lets you down in a professional environment - I got the impression that Logic was pretty much limitless providing you fully understood the environment. Now, the issues you have, is it that it can be done but the hassle involved just puts you off? Or, they simply just can't be achieved?

Ok the hunt continues.

I've just sent this to - iTunesStoreSupport@apple.com

(Grammar and spelling fetishists look away now)

I demand to be taken seriously this time, I don't need to be shown the terms and conditions NOR do I need to be told how to leave feedback on the iTunes store.

My case numbers so far are: ************ *********** Plus numerous ones from my phone calls.

My issue is this.

I purchased Logic Pro 9

Order ID: *************

Receipt Date: ***********

Roughly two weeks later Logic Pro X has been released. I had no warning that the software I purchased was soon to be replaced.

I have read through Many topics on the Apple Support Communities Page, and people have been granted a refund to use to buy the newer version, as long as the original purchase was within 30 days of Logic X becoming available. I am well within the 30 days.

Please see these topics for confirmation of this,

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5174738?tstart=30

Those are 2 of Many topics containing replies clearly stating people have been reimbursed.

Currently it seems some people are granted the refund and some people are not, please tell me how this is fair? Surely this is illegal?

There is NO uk phone service that can deal with my issue, each time they explain they are only there for technical support. So I'm left with this very slow 24 hour email service. Which seems to be very hit or miss as to whether I actually get a reply.

I love the apple company and its products but this situation is incredibly unprofessional, chaotic and unfair.

Please sort this for me before I have to take this up with a 3rd party to facilitate my reimbursement.

Alex Foster

like I was saying its a steal for the price and all that is great as far as creating . But you are getting Garage band Pro. Not Logic Pro. you can't move the pan sends the effects the stereo field is all wacky. You can't move, duplicate or organize channel strips in the Mixing Window. That way pros don't use it to mix. Google albums mixed in Logic. You can't find anything. Then Google albums mixed on Protools . This is why I complain and this is what talking about. I'm

On logics side that's why I want to see changes. Otherwise I will go to the other side ( protools ) I'm almost there now

Jul 19, 2013 12:43 PM in response to cirrusboy7

iPhone spell check is killing me here, ironic ?

I meant you can't pan sends to effect on a stereo track. There is no left and right knob on the channel strip send section lime on protools. this is a big deal. examples like this make it unprofessional and more kiddy toy land chucky cheese. So back to listening to the pros complaints and not going pros direction. That's all

Jul 19, 2013 1:16 PM in response to cirrusboy7

Pro Tools has primarily always been about Mixing and Editing, Logic has always been primarily concerned with composing. It's always been that way, so i don't understand why people think Apple are changing tact, when they're simply advancing it further for creative people to futher evolve.

For that reason, Pro Tools has always been used in studios because of it's tight integration with hardware and industry leading mixing and editing environments, but many studios have Logic still so that they can take songwriters compositions and take them to the next level.

So, any 'pros' that i see on this forum complaining, i truly don't understand - It seems as though they want a Pro Tools rig, complete with an entire suite of sounds and plugins, wrapped up in a nice apple interface, whilst at the same time having linux-like customisation on the interface - all for the price of a drum synth.

Pro Tools exists for a reason, if that's the tool for you and you're purely about the mixing, then go get it, it doesn't make Logic any less viable for a professional composer. It's like touting Adobe Photoshop as kiddish as it doesn't do illustrator-like tasks. They are tools for distinct purposes at a high level, but are capable of overlapping adequately.

I could find tons of commercial tracks that have been mixed with Logic, it is capable, even Rhianna uses Apple Loops for commercial worldwide hits. And i'm willing to bet a huge amount of music has been written using logic.

I want to understand your problems with the pan sends more, and i will find a method of achieving it, i fail to beleive that there's not a method with all the routing options that are available!

Jul 19, 2013 4:00 PM in response to skijumptoes

Yes thats exactly what i expect for $ 1000 dollars ( 2003 ) and all the $ 299 upgrades. the cost of a synth only now. remember Emagic's logic started strong in the mix world, one of its other strong points was that it had andvanced midi. Protools didn't even had midi until like 6 years ago. what they did was listen to protools users and answerd this by adding advanced midi and thier own line of instruments. now you can do all the things you can do in Logic and Mix the song in the same program. wow what concept. excuse me for campairing logic to protools when it comes to actually mixing. but seriuosly if protools can catch up with logic than surely logic can par up with protools in that world. Until then in dark vibey studio's in L.A. NYC and London a half a day is lost setting up a new PT session beacuase they can't mix an artist's track they did in logic, engineers will continue shaking their heads and laughing at the fact the Apple has missed some of the most fundimental things in the Mix Invionment. The thing is logic is just shy of hanging with the big boys. its just a few fixes really. were not not talking night and day here. Maybe its some coding thing they cant get around or something. i dont know. but you have to admit how cool would it be if they answerd that call.

Jul 20, 2013 2:22 AM in response to cirrusboy7

Oh, i think apple are more than capable, however they have a different user base to please than the pro tools group.

For starters, They want to give Logic enough power while keeping the workflow and functions easy for songwriters and composers who could be running on anything from their onboard soundcards to a whole array of outboard gear.

A Pro tool user generally has invested large amounts of money, is in a professional environment and generally are the type to sit down, read manuals and take time to fully understand the software they're about to install.

Logic on the other hand, Apple have got it down to a click on the App Store - Yet it still contains plenty of power, all the previous features, plus more!
