Why is the Apple Mac Developer portal down, and for how long?

I cannot access the Mac Developer resources this morning.

With a company as advannced as Apple, I would expect them to be able to roll out web updates

seamlessly.

I don't like being out in the cold.

I want to download the Mavericks Beta.

So, I realize I'm perhaps stating the obvious here, but clearly this wasn't a planned (be it announced or otherwise) outage... Unless the site comes back online as an entirely (literally) new site, there's absolutely no reason any outage/upgrade/maintenance/whatever should last this long when hosted by anything other than a low-rent backalley operation. Ironically, I'm in desperate need of OS X 10.9 Server DP3, as DP2 is ridden with bugs. Perhaps it's telling that their own site has been down for over a day and half--running OS X Server maybe???

Obviously you have no idea if it was planned or not.

It is entirely likely, if not probable, that there will be no change whatsoever to the developer site.

Just because the developer site is down does not mean you can discuss beta issues here. If you are desperately in need of production-quality server software then you shouldn't be running the beta at all.

This thread is full of speculation, off topic rants, and not much else. We may never find out the truth and the site will eventually come back online if you are patient.

My own speculation as to why the site is still down is that after getting totally disgusted reading this thread the entire staff at Apple has taken advantage of the nice weather and has gone to Mavericks to enjoy some surfing and barbecue. I suggest you all get back to work, or do the same.

Apple v. Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard[edit]http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Apple_Inc._litigation&action=edit&sect ion=36

Main article: Apple Computer, Inc. v. Microsoft Corporation

In 1988, after the introduction of Microsoft's Windows 2.0, Apple filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard alleging that Microsoft Windows and HP's NewWave violated Apple's copyrights in the Macintosh user interface. Cited, among other things, was the use of overlapping and resizable windows in Windows 2.0. The case was one of the "look and feel" copyright lawsuits of the 1980s.

After several years in court, Apple's claims against Microsoft were dismissed, primarily due to a license John Sculley had negotiated with Bill Gates for Windows 1.0. The decision was upheld on appeal in 1994, but legal disputes on this topic were still ongoing until 1997, when the two companies came to a wide-ranging agreement that included Microsoft buying non-voting Apple stocks.[144][145]

Apple doesn't deserve my hard earned $100 after all this. We've said it several times on this thread, Apple should have given the developers some kind of heads up. Even if this wasn't expected, they still should have notified the developers what was delaying the website and explain how they planed to resolve the issue and when the portal would be back online. Enough of this "We'll be back soon". People have jobs that depend on these services working and shockingly enough, even pay to use them. If Apple isn't able to hold up their end, the least they could do is let us know.

And as soon as the site comes back up, hundreds of stubborn developers like myself are going to renew their developer subscription and give Apple the money they don't deserve. It just goes to show how much power they have over the developing community that they can have an unannounced 3 day outage and still get people coming back. I'm done ranting.

I agree that some way or another Apple should of given us some fair warning. I have just jumped in now because i have been busily writing code, because ALL documentation i need, i have with me, and if i had a question StackOverflow has been there to help me out as well. So i didnt need the Dev Portal Forum and i didnt need the Dev Portal at all. I will need it in a few dau=ys time, but patience is a virtue, and karma is good in this house.

Be patient and good things will come people. Stop griping over Apple, yes they havnt said anything, yes the big Tech story people cant get anything out, biut when has Apple been up front with us.

Im waiting to be absolutley surprised and happy on Mondy some time ( Australian Western Standard Time ) so will be into the night for me, that they have made amazing changes.

To the Devs that have clients to keep happy, im sure a nice email, with a link to the Dev Portal showing whats going on will help you in explaining why you cant do so and so, and im sure the client will understand.

You all dis Apple, but honestly they are good to us, and the Support they give to us. Honestly, who puts on a shopw like WWDC and have that many engineers thetre to help you through a problem, or show you the easy way to over come it ?? Which Company, has all those videos at the Devs disposal, to go back through and rehash on things the Engineers talked about ?? Which Company has given over 7 Billion $ to us Devs for the hard work we put in ?? Which Company ?? APPLE so give ém a little leway, have a little patience, start on a new idea if you REALLY need the Portal, and wait to see what happens 🙂

Karma is good in this house, and good things happen to those that wait 🙂

Keep smiling and be happy 😉

Hello folks,

I'm new to the Apple Developer program. I'm just wondering, for my own education, is it common for the developer portal to go down? If so, how often?

I understand that this current situation is abnormal (at least I hope so!) but I'm wondering if there is any sort of pattern that downtime occurs... Once a month, once a week, etc?

Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the message. Very well said. I've been an Apple user since 2006. I know they don't say much. Yes, I know it would be nice if Apple would give us a clue as to what's going on but they haven't and there's nothing we can do about it, so why get upset. It's pretty much the same as losing apps or whatever because you didn't backup. Download everything you need to download and whatever you think your going to need for your project before things like this happen. Be prepared. It's the best way.
