Hey there, I have a gateway laptop which is being ran by Microsoft, my iTunes can't connect either I have updated my driver, uninstalled and then reinstalled my device from my ENTIRE computer, I am up to date with my phones software and my iTunes and still nothing will connect! I now that it't not my USB port or computer because my iPod shuffle, iPod 4 and iPad 1 connect but my iPhone 5s will do absolutely nothing, I simply have come to the conclusion that apple may have a problem with their software or the a problem with the iOS 10 and connection to iTunes if anybody has looked into this more please reply to this comment cause I have done everything and still nothing

Couple of quick questions on what does happen with your computer when you plug the phone in.

First - Does the computer show an auto play window when you plug the deivce in? Basically asking to import pictures.

Second - Does the device charge on the computer?

Third - Laptop or desktop?

Fourth - Is the phone plugged into the closest USB port to the power supply on the computer? These seem to be standard USB 2.0 ports (unless you have a really old or a really new computer).

Fifth - Did you uninstall all 6 pieces of iTunes or just the iTunes progam it's self?

i had the same issue after 2 hours of failures i was able to fix the issue.

basically what has happed is some how your iphone driver has stopped working.

go to your device manager. more than likely under other devices you would see your iphone under recovery mode. roght click--->properties. click on driver tab and update driver.

this would get your itunes to see your iphone. recover your iphone and then update or not.

let me know if this helps.

good luck

Found these steps posted elsewhere by another and the solution worked for me...

1. Go to Windows 8.1 Control Panel.

2. Go to Hardware and Sound; Devices and Printers; Unspecified (look for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver)

3. Right-click, then select properties on the menu list.

4. Select the "Hardware" tab at the top When the properties dialog box opens, once more select properties on the lower right hand button.

5. Under the "Driver" tab menu, the update driver button will be grey and unselectable here. So you need to select and click "Change Settings" button located near the lower left corner.

6. Now you can click the "Driver" tab menu near the top, so you can see the "Update Driver" button.

7. Select "Update Driver".

8. Select and click "Browse my computer for driver software".

9. For Windows 8.1 64 bit, it should be located in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.

10. Click Next, and let the driver re-install.

11. iTunes 11.1.4.62 should open automatically if your iphone is connected already

I had the same issue with my new iphone 6 plus. I tried a new apple usb cord but it didn't work.change all the usb port but it didn't work.

Just did what Andgrl89 posted and now it work perfectly. It fixes all the software problems and you won't loos any data stored in the itune.

this can help but there was another page in the apple support communities that i found somewhere that helped. i dont know where it went but i remember what i did.

like you, my iphone was NOT being recognized AT ALL by itunes. i tried a few things here and there and even tried using different ports and cables. that didnt work. but i found this information and it worked for me.

just as a FYI, uninstalling itunes from your computer wont delete any of the stuff you have on it. that stuff is on the computer and just shows up in itunes.

also, im doing this on Windows 8.

ok, so first, you get to your control panel. then go to uninstall program. thereare 5 programs that you will uninstall which is annoying but it worked.

uninstall:

1- iTunes.

2- apple application support

3- apple mobile device support

4- apple software update

5- bonjour

restart your computer. come back to the uninstall program page to make sure those are all uninstalled. then restart your computer again.

now, you can install itunes. then it should prompt to restart computer - do so, or restart if it doesnt prompt.

now try connecting.

i hope that helps. its a pain in the butt, but it helped.

Good Luck!!!

I'd like to add as i have had this problem too.

Mine was NOT a hardware problem. I was able to charge my phone again by uninstalling the driver for the iPhone.
so clearly a driver problem. I am now still unable to connect to itunes.

Yes i've reinstalled itunes 17 times and redownloaded it 6 times. It doesn't help

I found my phone charged when runing in Bios, so i concluded deleting the driver will at least let me charge my phone.

Don't talk to me about cables, I have been using Apple products since 1998 professionaly s a graphic designer, so I definitely know my way around.

I am so freeking livid I am about to turn my back on the iphone...

this is pathetic.

I am going to complain on the AIGA website, to see if the design studios across the country are having the same ******* problem.
