Can I upgrade from Logic 9 to Logic X?
Hey, I bought Logic Pro about 6 months ago. Is there a way to "upgrade" to Logic X without paying $199?
Logic Pro X, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Erik,
This is a peer to peer forum for Logic users. And if Logic users have been short-changed, mistreated, and generally subject to unethical budget-airline practices (as it would appear Apple are increasingly pursuing), then you're going to hear about it.
A peer to peer forum can offer advice not only to those struggling to operate products, but also to those having difficulty purchasing or obtaining refunds. This thread is a perfect illustration of peers helping each other in that respect.

Even though I do find the whining a bit annoying I tend to agree with SSShark, at least here you have some feedback and can commiserate with users in similar circumstances, you never know if a complaint to Apple is going to be ignored or responded to...... or if it even gets through to someone who cares. (cut to a group of Apple employees standing around a monitor laughing at "yet another" request for a refund.)
The only advice I have to off Logic 9 users who've purchased within the last 30 days, make sure Apple knows you want to use the refund to purchase Logic X.
The only posts I find really annoying are from intelligent users asking inane Logic questions they could easily find the answer to by reading a few pages of the manual. This is a USERS forum, people that respond here don't owe you the service of answering questions you could find by doing a little work on your own.
You know the saying... "there are no stupid questions". That's total B.S. It was made up by a lazy a**h***.
Hi Mike
I said I wouldn't whine any further on this but after reading some of the other comments added today I agree This is a forum for whatever your issue is and what I have just been through today is worthy of letting others know.
I took your advice and called the UK support again today. They were once again on my side and were appalled at the way Apple is dealing with this.
Apple support US sent a message to my UK support guy saying - The reason you are not getting a refund is because Logic Pro X is not an upgrade of 9 it is a whole new software and has no relation to 9.
I found this competely unacceptable on a few fronts -
If it is not an upgrade and not the same software why did Apple call it Logic Pro X and not Logic's Music Maker - because it is an enhancement of 9.
Why do Apple say on its own website 'What's new in version X' if it didn't have a predecessor.
How can Apple say we have stopped supporting this or that feature if there never was a previous version and
Why would you start a new software number at version X with an update of 10.0.0.1
The truth is Logic Pro X is an upgrade of Logic Pro 9 whatever Apple's PR and Sales and Marketing teams say.
Once again this is not about the price of £139 It is about Apple not informing good loyal clients when they purchased Logic Pro 9 that within two weeks it would be completely replaced by a new better version. Why can't they see the insanity of this. Why can't they have a grace period of 30 - 60 days for all software so that future purchases everyone knows the score. It's not that hard - but clarity makes it easier for everyone
Nicely put, Grahame. Here's another idea: when you go to the App Store to buy something (anything... be it Logic, Angry Walruses or whatever) how about they put a little flag there saying, "Please be advised that a new and improved version of xxxx is imminent. You may, of course, buy this current version now but you will have to pay again should you later wish to buy the new version. Thank you, your caring and sharing team at Apple."
Really, it's just good manners - and good business sense.
Graham, Well said.
My email to Apple simpy results in repeated, disingenuous claims that Logic Pro X is whole new version and has nothing to do with previous versions of Logic Pro.
The trouble with accepting this argument is that I'd be complicit in Apple's assumption that the customer is an idiot. In some respects I may be – I certainly don't always get things right. But I'm not letting this one slide. I've invested too much in Apple products over the years to take being short-changed and insulted lying down.
What a deal! 😠
I know. There are some threads here that you may want to read

Am I the only one getting pretty fed up with all this whining?
No... No.....No....
🙂
Morning Erik......
I called the UK It was they who put me through to America Probably because it was 6.00pm on Friday evening
Ah.. but you didn't pay for the call to the US did you?
If you bought in the last 30 days, keep calling them and asking for a refund on 9.
I would try calling some more until you hopefully get someone who can/will do the refund.
