Can't get Godaddy outgoing server to work in Mail - OK in Outlook

No matter what I try, I just cannot get the Godaddy outgoing server to work in Mail, but it works OK in Outlook for Mac which I don't really want to use if I can avoid it.

I've tried all my 3 accounts and none of them work with sending. All Ok receiving.

Tried smtpout.secureserver.net with and without SSL, and with all sorts of ports 80, 3535, etc.

Nothing works.

Can anyone suggest any solution or more in depth troubleshooting methods. I feel it's some security issue which Outlook seems to have more settings for.

Thanks.

Do what we have done for our clients when they (or we) have had enough with GoDaddy randomness. Switch to Rackspace. Once you've set up the client's email account(s), the difference in speed and reliability is like night and day.

Sure, we've had occasional outages with Rackspace but those are genuine disruptions of services that Rackspace more often than not has already taken not of on their status page. They also (actually) fix any problems super quick.

At the same time your last post above was coming in, I was searching for a GoDaddy replacement. I have a number of domains and a few hosting packages with GoDaddy right now. But it will be worth the time and trouble to rid myself of all the hassles and just say goodbye to them. It's time to move on. Will definitely look in to Rackspace. Thanks for the tip!!! Regards. Thank you to the person who wrote this...

"After 3 hours of getting jerked around by GoDaddy, I noticed that the password criteria for the incoming and outgoing servers were different. For example, one asks for 5-25 characters, the other 8-14. One requires a special charcter, the other does not. My incoming worked, outgoing would not, no matter what ports I tried.

My solution that worked was to pick a password that met both sets of criteria:

Go to GoDaddy (specifically GoDaddy, not from SecureServer interface) and change your email password to something 8-14 characters, containing a number, a capital letter, and a special character.

Everything else I did as normal (port and ssl-wise.)

This also fixed being able to get in via mobile devices."

I had 6+ i phones to set up with email and none of them worked until I tried this solution. now all seems to be working just fine.

I resell for GoDaddy and I am going to let them know about this. hopefully it may filter through to tech support soon.

Got it working . . . for now. I am a POP account (have to be).

  1. Went to GoDaddy.com > My Account > Email > Manage button > moused over (not clicked) my email address > Email Setup Center.
  2. Discovered my domain settings said "invalid". Clicked it, and it listed two MX Records. Called GD; woman said (of course) we can't help with client mail but let me check the MX Records, whereupon she found the error and fixed it. Logged out, came back in, and they are now valid. BUT the outgoing mail still failed. That was not the fix, but I certainly did not like an "invalid" message.
  3. Deleted the account from Mail and from System Preferences > Internet Accounts.
  4. Went through Keychain and deleted anything with the word GoDaddy or secure server.net (these were my only instances; you may have others so be careful).
  5. Restart.
  6. Added the GD account back in, but this time I added it in the System Preferences.
  7. Sending mail still failed.
  8. Found, in Apple Mail, my server settings > username and password were blank. Filled them in.
  9. It works.
  10. Went to the cabinet and found my Woodford Reserve bourbon.

This worked for me. Add the TSL, then match the settings to mine. There are 4 different ports to use with go daddy that are open out ports:

Port:110 in

Out: 25 80 3535 587

Try them all for the out. 3535 worked for me.

Then go back to the "account information" tab and click on "outgoing mail server" pull down. Click edit

Make sure you are only affecting the go daddy "smtpout.secureserver.net" nothing else.

select the TLS again here

And it has to be password authenticated. And the User name must be the full email as in blah@blah.com

I have an original iPad with iOS 5.x and my email to GoDaddy had worked for ages.

I tried it today (after not sending mail in a while via iPad), and it failed complaining about no password.

I googled the problem and found lots of posts of similar Apple/GoDaddy issues.

I found a help page on GoDaddy, https://support.godaddy.com/help/article/6724/iphone-troubleshooting-email

and it said that if outgoing mail to port 80 doesn't work then try port 3535 or 25.

I switched my outgoing server settings to use 3535 and it works fine now.

Now that I know what to look for, I find other people saying the same (scattered here and there in the pages of forum threads).

THIS posting is just to confirm publicly that simply changing the port worked for me.
