Support Code:300 The printer does not respond

In the last 2 weeks I'm suddenly getting a frequent error message on my MacBook Pro when I try to print to my Canon MX860 printer which I connect to over my WiFi network. This combination has worked flawlessly for several years, but now it suddenly keeps coming up with this "Support Code: 300" error.

I have deleted the printer several times and reinstalled. It will work for 12 hours or less and then I start getting the Support Code: 300 error again.

My notebook PC, sitting right beside my MacBook Pro, continues to print to this same printer with no issue.

Any suggestions?

I too suddenly started receiving communication error 300 and was ready to throw the printer out the window. Started when trying to print PDF (which seems to be most troublesome) and then nothing was working. Tried the disk utility fix (which seemed to be doing lots of clean up and I had just installed a system update) and still got communication error. Checked the ink well and one color was totally out so we replaced. Then shut off everything on network (turned off router and modem and turned back on, restarted computer and printer) and we are printing again....not sure which one of the "fixes" actually fixed it. Printer worked for years without issue (though we had a canon photo printer with constant problems in past) and started having commmunication issues about a year ago when we upgraded IOS system to Lion and like others, it will work for weeks and then suddendly issues emerge. Very frustrating, however I have slowly learned that checking the forums usually has a fix for these things!

The Support Code 300 error just appeared with my Canon MX870. Here's how I fixed it. Go to Print and Scan in System Preferences. The printer should appear in the list at top left. Highlight it and delete it by hitting the "-" button at bottom left. After confirming the delete, hit the "+" button. When the Mac finds the printer, add it. Try printing, it should work now. I had to do this a year or so ago too for a similiar communication problem. It's worked both times.

This was my problem. I knew it wasn't the WiFi since the scanner feature worked fine. I had not tried to copy anything. The black (double) cartridge was completely empty though it showed 1/2 full on the display. Upon replacing cartridge, it still did not work. I restarted both computer and printer....still did not work. Took TBannor's advice on deleting and adding the printer and it worked though my Mac did not find it, I had to type it in manually. Thanks to you both for solving my problem!

Hi!

I can report a positive experience with the Canon Support Team in Europe.

Initially I got the standard advice from them to update all printer-related software. Yet, that did not solve the problem. Then I was told to swithc off the WLAN function both with the router and the computer, delete the settings with the printer and set up the connection freshly. (Actually, a similar, though more extended procedure than that from wowmel a few days earlier). To my big surprise this worked fine. (No replacement of ink tanks or the like).

TBannor you are terrific. I am an ignoramus (68 yr computer illiterate) & I could follow your instructions & fix this bane of my printing existence.. Thank you, thank you. For awhile if I turned the printer off & back on I could get one print job done until just recently when I was about to spend $$$ on new printer, but found my savior first...

I just purchased the Canon MX922 - love it, but started getting this code 2 days after installing. I called the Canon support and they informed me it is a code for MAC - not canon. I have done all the above mentioned suggestions - new ink so not that, deleted and added printer, turned off and turn on everything - still having issue. My Mac is 10.9 OS - does anyone else have an idea what I can do? Really want to be able to use the wifi and not have to go back to the USB. 😕

Thanks for any suggestions.

I was experiencing the same problem with my Canon MG6220. The issue started showing up this week after an update which I couldn't pinpoint. The possibilities were that the Canon printer updated it's firmware to 3.2.0 by itself or Apple updated the Canon driver to 10.72.1.0. Anyways, I was able to resolve this issue as mentioned in this thread by removing the Canon printer from my list of available printers and re-adding it. I haven't seen any issues since.

I started getting this today... and I remembered I had changed my wi-fi network name and password since I last used the printer.

So I had to re-establish the network connection. To do this, I connected the printer to my MacBook Pro with a USB cable. I then opened the Canon IJ Network Tool on my laptop, chose "Setup" from the drop-down at the upper left, and followed the instructions. It renewed the handshake with the new network information, then I turned the printer off and disconnected the cable. All was well after that.

Obviously this will not apply to everyone, but it may apply to someone, so I figured I'd post.

I too had an issue with this. I followed someones advice to go into system preferences and lood under the computer setting. found out that i had my printer in there twice. Confused me. But i just had to chance the defult setting. My 1 1/2 year old likes to hit tons of buttons and he may have had something to do with it. But it fixed my problem

I was so happy to find this solution, however when I deleted the printer and tried to reinstall it, I got a message stating: "The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."

I went to the Canon site to try to download the driver but seemed to find only .exe files for Windows. ARRGH!

It's Friday night, I've had it, and Canon has no customer service over the weekend (if it ever does), so I'm signing off. Would love to see if someone can send me a link. Using OSX Lion (10.7.5).

Thanks!
