Support Code:300 The printer does not respond

In the last 2 weeks I'm suddenly getting a frequent error message on my MacBook Pro when I try to print to my Canon MX860 printer which I connect to over my WiFi network. This combination has worked flawlessly for several years, but now it suddenly keeps coming up with this "Support Code: 300" error.

I have deleted the printer several times and reinstalled. It will work for 12 hours or less and then I start getting the Support Code: 300 error again.

My notebook PC, sitting right beside my MacBook Pro, continues to print to this same printer with no issue.

Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

You're welcome for the community.

Strange how things happen. I hadn't had the problem in a long time either and then it hit a few days ago. First time under High Sierra. I'm using a Canon MX922. I tried various suggestions, mine and others'. I tried deleting an re-activating, resetting the printer system, reloading the Canon drivers, and reloading the latest Apple Canon drivers. I believe that part of the problem is that the old printer stays around even if you delete it from the Printers & Scanners list. I'd get the printer attached but I couldn't get it to use the Canon drivers. Canon's drivers have a lot more print options than Apple's.

What finally worked was to clear everything out, go into Preview, load a document, and click Print. Then under the Printer drop down is an Add Printer option. I selected that and I could see the different types of printer available. There are entries for both Bonjour Multifunction and Canon IJ Network. I chose the Canon IJ Network option and got the printer drivers I wanted. It's quite possible that this was suggested previously somewhere in this thread. Now I have to remember this for next time.

I was so happy to find this solution, however when I deleted the printer and tried to reinstall it, I got a message stating: "The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."

I went to the Canon site to try to download the driver but seemed to find only .exe files for Windows. ARRGH!

It's Friday night, I've had it, and Canon has no customer service over the weekend (if it ever does), so I'm signing off. Would love to see if someone can send me a link. Using OSX Lion (10.7.5).

Thanks!

I, too, did an update and got this same Support Code 300 error and tried what Tbannor suggested, but could not manually add printer and my computer did not search for it. I had to insert the original disc and add the computer back into the system and now it works..hopefully, forever....hope this helps dhunter910 bc it's very frustrating..had to print homework out for my daughter and took me about 6 hours to get this done!

I spent most of Sunday trying to get rid of the Support Code 300 on my MX870. When I deleted the printer and went to reinstall it, there was no recognition that I owned such a machine. I had to go through the Wireless Lan Setup again. What finally got rid of my code was changing out a cartridge that was empty, I had also not recieved any indication that I needed to do that; thanks to a previous reply I knew that was one solution.

Hello! I am dealing with the same issue. Cutting things off and back on, jiggling the cartridges, etc... had been working until today. I deleted the printer from my Mac, but it won't "find" it now. I don't have a clue what to type in to help it add it now, and I'm rather panicked. Can someone please help me? 😟 I'm not very good at this type of thing.

jijibar,

Don't panic...lol. It is easy to correct. First, click on system preferences, then printer and scanners. When the printer boxes opens, check to see if your printer is listed. If not, then turn off your printer, wait a couple minutes and then turn it back on. Now click the + button on the bottom left of the box. This will add the printer to your computer. Give the printer a couple minutes to connect to your mac. My printer will generally show 2 type of drivers - one will say bonjour after the printer name and then second just the name. Choose the non-bonjour printer and then hit the add button. Re-send what you are trying to print and this should correct it...until it happens again. Mine does this occasionally - not sure why.

Hope this works for you!!
