The problem may be that you need to log out of your iCloud account on your mac then log back in. That would be the first step.

1. Disable iCloud.

Go to System preferences > iCloud.

Disable all features in the right, and sign out your account.

2. Repair permissions.

Launch Disk Utility, choose bootable partition, and switch to First Aid section.

Run Repair Permissions on that volume.

3. (Clear caches).

It is not necessary but I think it would be useful.

You'll be able to do this by using one of the common maintainance applications, like CleanMyMac.

You can also do this using Terminal, but I'm very goot at it.

But you can google of cause, how to clear user/system cahes on mac.

4. Restart system.

You'll do it without my help)

5. Enable iCloud.

Do exactly what you did in the beginning but in reverce orger.

Login to Messages.

I can't guarantee it will work. But in my case (I don't have Flash installed) it has helped.

Good luck!

This didn't solve my problem.

However I read further about someone saying they did this as well as signing out of iCloud. I started checking iCloud to see the settings and the iMessage account didn't have all my contact information. That may be a very vague statement and I will try to explain.

For whatever reason, I used my Gmail email for my Apple ID as well as Gmail. There looked to be both Google Talk (using Gmail ID) and then iMessage which had Gmail and iCloud email but not my phone? I don't know how all that syncs/works out..but it was my phone that wasn't activated on my Mac. I'm new to Mac so this is something I would have to sit and work on to understand. (i just finally figured out contacts syncing with work and personal and all my devices). Anyway, once I activated my phone, it then all connected and appears to be working. So check your acounts in iMessage.

iMessage is not working on my mac.
