Macbook Air SSD failure?

I've had my MBA for just under a year, and the SSD failed today. I saw the dreaded white screen. I took it into an Apple store, and they are having to replace the SSD. Unfortunately, they didn't have the one I need in stock. So, it will be a few days. I'll be lost without my MBA. LOL

Has anyone else had issues with SSD failure on MBA? I hope this is not a common issue. Luckily, it is still under warrants. The part was about $800.

My 2012 macbook air toshiba ssd failed also. it was 1 year 1 month old. I just brought it in to applecare today and they confirmed a dead ssd. I am waiting on repair. It ***** that they will use the same toshiba drive to replace it I dont want to have to bring it in again a year from now again. These drives are failing just out of warranty and apple is ignoring the problem.

I feel like we should have all posted our countries from the very beginning of this thread to gain a little more understanding of what's happening. I really feel like some countries have recognized this problem while other countries have yet to see a problem.

I know my phone representative (USA) said he didn't see anything about SSD failures when I asked about 2 weeks ago. Other posters are reporting the same thing still while some posters have been reporting that their Apple stores have indeed put a flag on this issue. This might be misleading to many newcomers to this thread who are in differing geographical location.

Same problem here with my mid 2012 macbook. after about 1 year and 2 weeks it died...

I hope apple recognises the problem but my first trip to the apple store didnt end well. They wanted to charge ~400 euro. My macbook is 2 weeks out of warranty and the drive breaks down.

The problem is i would take this disccussion to the apple store but i have to travel 3 hours one way which is kind of an investment for: "Were not aware of this, please pay 400 euro". Also I need it to work again for my job so im thinking of replacing the ssd myself. I just have trouble finding the right SSD nearby. Anyone from the netherlands with SDD order/store tips?

I was told it might have something to do with the 128 GB Sandforce controller on the toshiba ssds. I was also affected, and I'd like to get an idea of how true (or untrue) this statement is. Can those who have had SSD failures 9-14 months after your purchase let me know whether you:

- A) Had a 128 GB ssd drive

- B) It's a Toshiba drive?

So after my 128GB Toshiba SSD died on my MacBook Air 11 inch 2012, 1 year and 3 months in to it's life cycle,

I had the part ordered at the Genius Bar, Covent Garden and the cost covered under Applecare extended warranty.

I was told the part was constrained and I would have to wait an estimated 4 weeks.
But to my surprise I got the call earlier this week the part was in, brought my MacBook Air to the store,

and had it repaired within 3 days, when I was told expected turn around was currently at 7-10 days.

Well done, Apple Covent Garden, you did well.

Also, I'm happy I took out Applecare as having to argue your case for the cost of repair out of warranty isn't fun at all.

For all those of you that are waiting for the part to arrive, here's my video which includes a temporary solution.

Mine was repaired at Apple Bluewater.

Yes, they are so fast that i could get my laptop back the day after i left it in.

However, tragedy was that the part replaced was Toshiba SSD again.

Although I was 3 months out of warranty, got it for free and another 90 day extended warranty from now on, it's tragedy indeed. They say it is 'different' Toshiba SSD. But, I'd say it's another time bomb. I couldn't help it but bring it with me cos I was desperate to use it. No more argue.

Please, check which company's product they use it.

Good luck!
