Cannot print to Canon iR2022i

Our Canon iR2022i printer was connected to a router with the ethernet cable and we could print without problem from Windows.

We recently replaced the router with the new Airport Extreme (with 802.11 a/c). Attaching the printer to Airport Extreme via its USB port, we can set up and print from Windows through Bonjour. But I can't print from my MacBook running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.4).

I installed Mac_UFRII_V243_uk_EN and can print without problem if it is connected directly to the MacBook's USB port.

Connecting to Airport Extreme's USB port, I had no problem "adding" the printer in System Preferences. It saw the printer. I picked "Canon iR2022/2025/2030 UFRII LT (UK)" when selecting the printer driver. Setup went without problem. But then it shows this error message:

I tried using Printer Utility to "get the printer information" but this error message appeared:

I'm now saving documents to the cloud so that I can print from Windows! It's very frustrating. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thank you very, very much!

(No luck setting up the printer if I connect it to the Airport Extreme via ethernet cable (Mac and Windows.) I don't know a thing about networking but i didn't expect that Airport Extreme would make it so hard. 😟)

I can't say this enough, but thanks you guys for all the help!

The printer setup is OK. But my Dell or my colleague's may lose internet access, apparently due to IP address conflict. I tried switching to DHCP/NAT (with the Double NAT error) but printing would fail. 😟

I still don't understand why we can print through the USB port on the Airport Extreme using Bonjour from Windows but not from Mac. Is this something a future update of the printer driver can fix?

As I mentioned before, the inability to have the Canon iR connected to the USB port of an Airport Extreme is due to a limitation of the Canon UFR2 for Mac OS X. If Canon designed the Mac version to function more like the Windows UFR2 driver then it would work. But this is not the case and I doubt it will ever be changed to work.

As for future update, well there is a new version of the UFR2 driver for new models of Canon imageRUNNER. And I believe this driver will work with the USB port but I have never tested it because no one has ever wanted to have their large office-based copier connected to the Airport USB. And more importantly, this later driver does not support your iR2022. So there is no point in you trying this driver, although I may test it with an Extreme next week.

I did try to get you some help on the Airport Extreme but there was little response to my request in the "Lounge". So I would suggest you create a new post about your issue in the Airport forum.
