Talk21 email service stopping, how do I backup/migrate?

I've used Talk21 for my email for years and years. It went to Yahoo, then BT and I've just had an email saying that its going to stop and I have 3 options. Buy BT broadband, pay £1.60/month or leave.

I have Virgin BB, don't want to pay a monthly fee, and although not too happy with it, I'll have to let it go and use my Gmail email.

So how can I backup my Talk21 email? It was my prime email (I learnt not to use a ISP email in case you leave...).

I have numerous emails and folders etc that I want to keep. I've always just used it as webmail and on my iPhone nits also on my iMac mail app.

Is there any easy way to backup/export/save all my email? I suppose I could forward all the email to my Gmail one, but this would take ages with the number I have. I also don't have that long to do it, finishes around start of Sep.

Any help on someone who has done similar, or anything I can do.

Cheers

Time for a screenshot, I had assumed that you knew your way around Gmail, but apparently not.

Take a shot of the sidebar in Mail on your Mac, post it here (obscure any personal info that appears)

Also I dont really know around Gmail either sorry, I only used it really when I signed up, when I had an Android phone, and for Google Music, so dont use it much, but have to now as Talk21 is going...

So the inbox above, is the same as the inbox on Gmail.com, but when I look under the Google Mail folder, and ALL mail, theres loads of emails in there which I cant see on Gmail.com, and that I cant seem to delete

thanks again for help

Ah ha, I've just found an "All Mail" item on Gmail.com, which seems to show all the mail, but his has stuff like inbox, dleeted, bin etc etc in, so everything I do with my mail still goes into the "All mail" in Gmail.com? seems daft to me, if I dleeted it, put it in the bin?

Still doesnt explain, thogh, if I delete some mail in the iMac Mail app under Google mail>all mail, will this delete it on Gmail.com in the all mail?

Also how do I stop calendar reminders going to the email on Gmail please?

cheers

All Mail is exactly that, all of the mail that ever went through Gmail, including the mail you deleted. Best thing to do with the All Mail folder is to turn off the view of it in mail. You can't delete from it (because it is simply a view) and you clearly find it confusing. All the others listed under Google Mail are optional, they are labels that you may apply to existing mail. If you look on Google under the same labels you wll find the same mail (ie: look under Important on the website, it should match Important in Mail)

To suppress the view of 'All Mail' (or any other mailbox) go to Gmail's settings (on the website) and (under labels) choose which ones you want to see and which ones you don't.

Why did you choose Gmail, it is a very non standard system, was there a specific reason you needed it (if you don't just get rid of it and use iCloud instead) 4 accounts is 3 too many.

No specific reason chose it, I had to have it when I got an Android phone (now gone), so kept it for that and I have a Google Music account (that works on my iPhone to)

The Talk21 was my primary one, and I then got an iCloud one when they came out, the Virgin one is my ISPs, which I try not to give out now, and am trying to sort this one out to just use one.

I dont like the Gmail interface at all, I much preferred the Talk21 folders, I dont like all these views, confusing, for me anyway.

What I want to be able to do is on my iPhone, using Mail app, delete it from there and then it will delete from Gmail, wherever it is suposed to.

I still havent even started migrating my emails over from Talk21 to Gmail yet, as wanted this sorted, and I'm running out of time!?! gulp...

If you are going to use Gmail you need to understand it a little better. Google have tons of info and help pages for the mail system, read them. If you don't know how to use Gmails settings you will not find it a pleasant or even particularly intelligible system.

If you set it up as an Imap system it will do what you want, but if you leave the All Mail folder visible it will appear as if it did not, so you must get to grips with the Imap views available in the settings on the website.

Thanks, tbh I've never had time yet to read a lot about Gmail as the Talk21 has become my priority as I have stuff I need to backup/keep from it before it closes in a few weeks.

It is setup as IMAP as far as I know, this means whatever I delete out of inbox in iMac mail app will delete it from Gmail.com, and also whatever I delete from Mail app on my iPhone will do the same?

I've now disabled the view to see "all mail" in the Mail app on iMac to stop confusion, so this should be it yes?

Thanks again for your help appreciate it.

Yes, provided all devices have Gmail setup as Imap.
