iTunes 11 crashes when I open the store.

I have tried repairing, uninstalling the entire apple suite ( described in a different article on apple support website), reinstalling, opening in safe mode, changing users, changing the firewall and antivirus settings, clearing the itunes cache, updating iTunes and Windows, and countless reboots. I'm on a brand new pc with Windows 7, so this is really frustrating. I can open my library, but when I click on the store, it loads about 3/4 of the way and stalls. I then get a message that says iTunes has stopped working, and I can either close it or "look online for a solution." But that never helps.

I tried all of the things above and not one of them resolved my problem with itunes crashing as soon as it tried to access the itunes store, either directly or through Match or Genius or Store.

I was able to get itunes to work by doing the following.

1. I uninstalled anything related to Apple:

  • Itunes
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Apple Application support
  • Apple Software Update
  • Quicktime

2. I then made sure that all folders were empty and deleted:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Apple Software Update
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
  • C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple
  • C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer

3. I also made sure all of my itunes libraries and folders were deleted. (I temporarily moved them to an external drive).

4. I then emptied the Recycle Bin

5. Then reinstalled iTunes from scratch and it worked.

Hope this helps somebody out. I have Windows 7 64bit, itunes 11.2.2.3.

Just today, iTunes started refusing to launch for me - but it WOULD start in Safe Mode. I tracked the problem down to the attempt to "send Genius results", which does not happen in Safe Mode, but happens at startup in normal mode. After trying a bunch of things, flusteredduck's suggestion of just uninstalling Quicktime did the trick for me - iTunes now starts in both modes without any trouble.

I suppose I'll try installing Quicktime again at some point, when I encounter some content that needs it, but I'm not going to bother until that happens, for fear of having it break my iTunes again.
