Sound on Apple TV not working.

I just turned on my Apple TV and I have no sound. It was working fine last time I used it. Checked audio settings and hdmi lead.

First cheap trick to solve this bug is restart your device from Settings > General > Restart.

I noticed this audio problem after I turned on Conference Room and then turned it off. I would hear Apple TV sound effects but no audio from apps like HBOGO or Music. If I streamed music over from my laptop it would play fine. Really odd bug. Unplugged cables, changed Dolby settings and no difference. Finally a restart cleared up whatever the cause was and back to normal.

Hopefully Apple will patch and fix this soon.

I have followed the steps in both articles and still do not have sound, or any kind, coming to the TV...not even the little clicks with Sound Effects turned on. I have also updated my software...in fact I did that before I pursued the steps in the articles. I also tried an alternate HDMI port on the TV without success. TV sound is normal. Any other suggestions?

I had the same issue. Perfect video, but no audio other than the sound effects from the navigation buttons. I tried all of the recommendations made in the two Apple articles listed above to no avail. My Apple TV was purchased 2015 connected directly to Samsung TV via HDMI cable.

The solution that finally worked came from the Apple tech support via phone. The tech support person was surprised that this solved the problem.

Here was my solution:

Go to Apple TV Settings --> General --> Network --> Choose the Wi-Fi network for my home --> Choose Forget Network

Then, rejoin the network.

We actually created a mobile hotspot with my iPhone to join that network, tested it, then dropped that network and rejoined the home network. Tech support says doing the above Forget Network step should serve the same function.

No more problem with no audio.

Hope that helps.

I found the solution,

After enabling mirroring apple tv through airplay, go to setting of display and select optimize for apple tv, instead of iMac/MBP, and it will work just fine, i tried it yesterday through xbmc , and had the same audio playing through internal speakers, checked sound settings and it wouldn't change, then did the workaround of optimizing for apple tv instead of iMac and it worked perfectly fine.

I'm also having issues....

Open Spotify

Select Apple TV as to where i want the sound to come from

Nothing happens and the sound plays on my iPhone?

Pretty frustrating as this is a reason i purchased as I was told this would work in the shop
