My Ipad shuts down after I stop using it and I have to press both buttons to get it to come back on every time?

When my ipad 2 has unused for a few minutes it goes into shutdown mode and I have to press and hold both buttons to get it turned back on! It works fine as long as the cover is off!

iPad 2, iOS 6.1.4
