AppleTV (3rd Gen) not recognizing iTunes library

I have turned on Home Sharing under the same Apple ID in iTunes 11.0.5.5 and on the Apple TV, they're both connected to the only wireless network available, and still the library is not recognized on the Apple TV. What am I doing wrong here? All updates have been installed everywhere.

I'm using a Dell PC with Windows 7.

Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same issue. ATV gen 1 worked well but took several weeks of fiddling including a network engineer. They couldn't figure it out. Then, by magic it just started. Been 3 years so upgraded to a gen 3 ATV 3 months ago. It worked once for 10mins on iTunes and even downloaded 1 photo album and has never connected again. Isn't recognized by computer or iTunes when directly plugged into the computer ALTHOUGH the computer does signify connection with a beep. No connection on WiFi or WD Link. All ATV functions work just won't connect to iTunes. Everything updated, reset etc. SO FRUSTRATING.

Hi, having the same issue here. This has been happening for weeks now and I have no explanation. The bigger thing for me is the iTunes Wi-Fi Sync stopped working at the same time. I've tried many things, but so far the only thing to work was to uninstall all Apple products (in a particular order) then reinstall iTunes, which allowed the Wi-Fi Sync and the AirPlay to the AppleTV to work temporarily... I say temporarily because when I woke up this morning, it was back to malfunctioning.

I have tried everything from disabling services to running in compatibility mode, but nothing is working. Just now I have opened up a protocol analyzer and have found that my computer is indeed recieving the query from the AppleTV, as well as all my other i-Devices. Yet in iTunes, only one device shows up with the Wi-Fi Sync, and when I attempt to sync to it the device disappears saying "The settings could not be found". If it helps, all the devices can connect to the AppleTV with no issues to broadcast videos pictures and music, but the AppleTV cannot connect to the library on my computer, and my computer cannot broadcast anything to the AppleTV. I think because of related problems the Wi-Fi Sync is not working. Here is some more info if it is needed:

Computer running: Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Router is: TP-Link TL-R600VPN

Wireless: Xirrus AP's (not the issue as I have demonstrated)

All devices confirmed to be running latest firmware/software.

Please Apple, fix this one!

I have the same issue, but only sometimes. It seems if I close and reopen Itunes, My ATV and i-devices see the library, but then even so my i-devices take about 10 minutes to connect to the library, whereas on the ATV it is instant.

I have the firewall enabled, but I have set logging to log sucessful and dropped packets, I dont see any dropped packets at the time my devices should be seeing the library. Disabling the firewall and AV doesnt seem to make any difference.

Just seems to be flakey software on Apple's part.

I have the same issue. I am running Windows 7 professional 64 bit and just added a Samsung 65" with Comcast, ATV3, and a Panasonic Blue Ray to the network. ATV3 finds my library "John's Library" and attempts to load. The display reads "Loading John's library." It runs for about 45 seconds (sprocket spinning) and then displays a generic message stating it could not connect and to update software (done) and turn on iTunes (done.)

I don't know about other functions of ATV3 since this is the first one I've tried. I want to add my music library to this $5k monster I have created.

That said, the new setup will be great for the SF-Seahawks game on Sunday. Woo-hoo!

Hi all - same problem here - absolutely mind-numbing!!! Mine work for 2+ years and now all the sudden I'm dropping my ATVs and spending countless hours fiddling with my network and Win7 box to get them back. The only change I've made recently is to replace my 802.1N Dlink router with an Apple Time Capsule.

Scanning through these discussions I saw someone post that disabling IPv6 in the adapter solved their prob - it did mine as well (at least for now)!! So if it fails again or I find any other culprits, I'll repost and share out to all of you.

Good luck!! Please fix this Apple!!

Steve

Folks, try this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5485148?answerId=23934504022#23934504022

Disbale IPv6 in Mac OS X or Windows and restart your machines and reestablish your home sharing. Disabling IPv6 on your router may also work.

It appears iTunes may be broken in how it uses the underlying protocol to support home sharing particularly as it pertains to IPv6.

I am having the same frustration for almost 3 days now. I have done everything except take it back to the store and get a refund! This product should not be that difficult to use. It was working fine just a week ago and now it wonʻt play ANYTHING from my itunes home sharing library. Is there any solution? And my itunes are on a iMAC.

Help!
