Aperture wont op "To use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly." error when opening aperture 3.4.5 library.

Have been using fine up until Wednesday this week and suddenly cannot open file at all.

I have around 10K images on drive but file size for library says 0bytes. When I use Alt to open it shows file and shows correct number of versions and originals but then gives the error re permissions when trying to open.

Have tried the repaire permissions, repair database and rebuild database all give same error about permissions and fail to start.

HELP!

Let me know what might be the bet way to reconstitute. Sounds like local index on hard drive and then referenced on external or index and files managed on a reformatted external. (Am I getting it now?)

If you prefer the safety and simplicity of having a managed library and are willing to invest into an additional drive, put your managed Aperture library on a new drive with the correct formatting.
If you are willing to go for a referenced library, use "File > Relocate Originals" to relocate the original master files to a folder on your current external drive and move the (smaller, referenced) Aperture library to your system drive. The referenced library needs extra care and attention to backup the originals and to make sure, you do not accidentally delete the original files. See: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images

Before transforming your library, make sure you have a current, working backup of the library as it is now.

And to be able to open your Aperture library and to relocate the originals to move them out of the library, you have to move the library temporarily to a correctly formatted drive anyway.
