Song shows as "Purchased" in iTunes and won't let me re-download it, but it doesn't show up in my Purchased list. I want the song back, don't mind re-downloading, but it won't let me

I was having the same problem and just figured it out. Just like a lot of you, the fixes listed here didn't work for me. This is what I did:

1.) Open iTunes Store app

2.) Scroll to the bottom of the Music tab to your Apple ID

3.) Tap your Apple ID and select "View Apple ID"

4.) It will take you to your Account Settings and you'll scroll down to and select "Hidden Purchases"

5.) Select "Music" and it should all be there

6.) Select "Unhide" and it should automatically start downloading the songs.

Hope that helps!

I was stuck on this for a very long time. I couldn't figure out why things would show I purchsed but I couldn't download. Found out the songs and albums were hidden. So here's what I did to fix my issue, hopefully it will help people who come to this link and need help like I did.

1) Go to the iTunes store

2) Click on "Account" in the quick links (right side of home page)

3) Under iTunes in the Cloud, look for Hidden Purchases, then click on the link to the right that says "Manage"

4) It should show all of your "hidden" songs here. Simply click the "Unhide" button under each album

5) Go back to the iTunes Store home

6) Click on "Purchased" link in the Quick Links

All the albums that you couldn't see and download before should be there now. Hopefully this solves anybody elses issues like it did mine with this. I had to read through several forums before I found this out. Good luck all!

The same thing happened with an album to me! I had purchased the songs but it would let me play them or redownload them.

What I did was search each song individually in itunes and when I clicked to download them it said that I had already purchased them so I could download them for free. I did this for every song and it worked fine.

Hope this helps!

This link solved the same issue for me-

My situation was i purchased album, but songs never downloaded (I think because there was some access privilege problem with the location of my iTunes account). I tried everything - with no luck, until I found link above-

Good luck

I figured it out! Most of your old album, or song purchases are hidden therefore you can't re-download them until you "unhide" them.

1. Go to your Itunes Store

2. Click Account, under Quick Links

3. Go to the category that says Itunes in the Icloud

4. Go to Hidden Purchases and then click Manage

5. It will lead you to your music tab and all the songs that are "hidden" just click Unhide or something of that nature and viola, your old music purchases will be in your itunes library.

I have a similar issue.

I somehow deleted the music on my Mac while cleaning up and when I go to my itunes library now my purchases no longer have a download link.

New purchases are directly downloaded to my Mac but not all the music that was there before.

Same ID, same iTunes store, same country, music still available in the store, still showing in my library as purchased.

The songs that I'm missing do not show up under not in my Library.

Songs that are supposedly in my library can't be played and itunes asks me to locate them on my Mac, which it can't as they are no longer there.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply but that doesn't help at all.

The problem is that these songs show up as in my library under Purchased but they are not actually on my Mac.

There must be a way to play music bought on the itunes store without having every single file downloaded on my mac.

It can't be that if I have 20Gb in music in my Library that I need to download 20Gb of music to my Mac.

The library file should be enough but this isn't working.

Would I be better off moving the whole library file to trash and start all over?

I have indeed activated iTunes match on the Macbook.

I indeed deleted that file on the mac and not via iTunes as I noticed that if I delete it via iTunes it takes up way more disk space.

The iPod classic can hold 64Gb but it is kind of pointless if I can only sync the iPod with if I download 64Gb of music onto my Mac.

There are plenty of other music players and other mp3 players that can organise my music better and play it better.

I stuck with the iPod and Macbook andiTunes as it is supposed to all work together, but apparently it doesn't.

Even though I have music in the cloud turned on it still doesn't seem to be able to sync with music in the cloud unless I have it downloaded onto my Mac.

I indeed want to download or sync music to my iPod from iCloud. If it can't do this and I have to have every single file I want to sync with my iPod on my Mac then it is no use to me at all.

There are other music players that can do this for me so I would be forced to look for those now.

As for the iPod. I think I resolved it for now by deleting all music in my library and now redownloading it to my harddrive.

Very disappointed in that though.

Which devices do you think you can you sync music to by connecting to your computer if you do not have that music on your compuer?
