Song shows as "Purchased" in iTunes and won't let me re-download it, but it doesn't show up in my Purchased list. I want the song back, don't mind re-downloading, but it won't let me

I was having the same problem and just figured it out. Just like a lot of you, the fixes listed here didn't work for me. This is what I did:

1.) Open iTunes Store app

2.) Scroll to the bottom of the Music tab to your Apple ID

3.) Tap your Apple ID and select "View Apple ID"

4.) It will take you to your Account Settings and you'll scroll down to and select "Hidden Purchases"

5.) Select "Music" and it should all be there

6.) Select "Unhide" and it should automatically start downloading the songs.

Hope that helps!

I have the same problem, took me 3 days to find the solution:

1. Go into iTunes store (need to be logged in)

2. On the homepage, go to "Purchased" right hand side right under "Music Quick Links" and "Account"

3. Now your purchased history will show up (not to confuse with the purchased playlist inside your local device).

4. On the top center; you should see something like "All" and "Not in My Library", select "Not in My Library" to find the missing songs.

5. On the bottom right, go should see "Download All", click on it and this should initiate the download immediately.

Hope this will solve it for you...

I had the same problem. It says "purchased" but it is greyed out. I managed to sort this with the following:

1) Open iTunes on computer and sign in

2) At the top, towards the right, click on your name appearing with a small down arrow.

3) Click on Purchased

4) At the top click on the box "Not in Library"

5) There should be the song(s) that you purchased but for some reason didn't download to your library.

6) Click on the download-cloud icon showing on the wanted album cover and voila!

I am using OS X 10.9.5

Good luck!

Had similar problem. Go to iTunes Store. Click on Purchased. That'll give you a list of everything you've bought. From that list just click on any of the songs to download it. It'll then prompt you for your username and password. once that's in go back to your music and all the "Cloud" songs (i.e., previously bought and downloaded songs that are no longer on your device and "greyed out") should now be downloadable... it's just some problem with authenticating or something... won't do anything until you've put your user/password in...

To Jim's and the others points this should work. If it isn't the issue with the hidden files being selected in Account quick link then going to library as Jim suggested works. It may not show in the not on this computer list though. I found the album I was looking for by going to the specific artist. It was there and then I clicked on the iCloud download icon and now its in my library on another Mac I own.

I have the same exact issue.

This response worked up until step 5

1) Go to iTunes on computer

2) Go to iTunes store and "Sign in"

3) On the right hand side by " Qick Links " under that and click " Account " and sign in again.

4) You will your account information.

5) Go down you'll see " iTunes in iCloud" and click " Hidden Purchase" and go to " Manager" to "Unhidden"

When I got to step 5 the hidden purchases button was not there.

Skimmed thru the whole 10 pages of the thread and didn't notice this fix.

I could have totally missed it though.

Anyway, it is the ONLY solution that worked for me.

Not saying it's the "best," "least complicated," or "will totally work for you" option.

I will say that it is the "most ridiculous" option.

If nothing has worked for you yet, why not try it just for kicks?

1) Hate your life.

2) Click "Playlists" up there at the top of the screen.

3) Click on the playlist "Purchased."

4) Select the tracks you are having trouble (as described by original poster) with —they'll have those little exclamation point thingies next to them.

5) Make a playlist from those tracks.

6) Click "My Music" to return to your library.

7) Search for the missing track/album in your library.

8) In the track list portion (don't think it works if you click to play the whole album) click the first—or any—track with an exclamation point next to it.

9) When you get that "do you want to locate it" pop-up, click "CANCEL." Yes, you read that right.

10) Now take a look at the track you couldn't download. There should be the little cloud next to it.

11) Click on the little cloud.

12) Voilà ! The track should download.

13) Repeat steps 8-11 for every single track you're having the problem with.

14) Turn that frown upside down.

I had the same problem until I realized that only my songs labeled "explicit" were missing (possibly following the last iOS update). My fix was:

Go to settings>General>Restrictions>Allow content:music podcasts and itunesU

make sure "explicit content" is activated.

This made my purchased songs reappear in the music library purchased list and no longer be greyed out.

The solutions provided do help in solving problems similar to this, but I think the main thing that will help some of those who stumble across this same question is one that is really kinda simple and made me feel a bit dumb when I figured it out myself.

The albums displayed in the picture part of 'Purchases' when you first get to the listing is not a complete list. It's your 'Recent Purchases' list.

Use the text list on the left side of 'Purchases' and find the band name.

Click on the band/artist name, this will bring up the artist you are looking for.

From there you can download from the cloud like normal.

Hope that helps some people.

I was having the same issue where the purchased album would only show in the iTunes store grayed out as Purchased. I was unable to find them in hidden downloads or anywhere else in my actual music library. I solved this problem by transfering the songs from my iPhone to my computer, as that was where I originally purchased them (seems too simple now.)

So in iTunes with device attached:

File --> Devices --> Transfer Purchases

It seems like I should have been able to directly do this just with my account and my computer rather than having to hook up my two devices. It might be that I don't have the cloud set up on my computer since it's so old. But if the account info is all there then I should be able to still download from the store.

Having the same problem . . . however when I got the prompt that said it could not locate the song, instead of clicking "Locate", I clicked "Cancel" and the song immediately started playing. I thought this was incredibly strange but it happened with all of the songs that initially iTunes could not locate. It may have something to do with the fact that I have iCloud and the purchases songs were stored there. As counterintuitive as it sounds to click Cancel when iTunes could not locate it, it sure found it quickly!!! Another quirky iTunes "feature"!!!

***?? I just had this happen too. . . now we have to go thru these invisible steps just to get songs back????? I had just duplicated an album with its remaster and didn't want each song to play twice, now I have nothing. I hope apple gets it together on this one and returns to "Lets make this simple for our customers" methods of doing things. Sheesh

Can you please explain exactly what your issue is, and what you are unable to do? This thread is several years old, has gone through several iterations, and we are now in a situation where several configurations are possible, all of which will change the way things process. We cannot help you if you do not provide any specifics.

Cheers,

This is the only thing that worked - logging out of iTunes and re-logging back in.

There are many related issues reported here. My issue:

Album shows in iPhone Music as "Purchased" and "Downloaded". Only problem is, Track 1 is not downloaded, and only shows up and is playable with an internet connection. It doesn't have the tiny iPhone icon that shows it's been downloaded. So if you go in Airplane Mode, Track 1 is missing from the album list.

Nothing in my case is "hidden" or in the cloud. The phone thinks its downloaded but it is not. I cannot re-download because it says all tracks are downloaded.

Logging out and back in made the track appear as locally downloaded.

Song shows as "Purchased" in iTunes and won't let me re-download it, but it doesn't show up in my Purchased list. I want the song back, don't mind re-downloading, but it won't let me
